First of all, let me take the opportunity to exclaim, "Wow, what a response!"
Our Kitchen Knife Kits have proven to be extremely popular, and we're busy filling orders for woodworkers who love to cook and for those wanting to make gifts for friends and family who cook.
Linda has included some photographs she took at WIA 2013 (and one I took of her), including this year's portrait of The Proud & Unplugged. Once you've clicked through to read more, you'll find the portrait on the bottom of the first page. Each business name is a link to that business. So, if you're curious, please take the time to check out who and what these small, independent toolmakers are all about. A great group I'm proud to be part of!
Also in this issue Isaac Fisher answers a question about getting started with a scratch stock. Just click through to the full article and for more, click through again to the slide show Isaac and Linda made with tips on making your own cutter from the blank stock we supply.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! And, of course, let me know if there is anything you need from Hock Tools.

Q & A:
How do I get started with a Scratch Stock?
Isaac Fisher is the fine furniture maker who designed and manufactures the Hock Tools Scratch Stock. One of the beauties of the Hock Tools version of this classic tool is that they're made from tough, wear-resistant bamboo plywood. Each Scratch Stock comes with two spring steel blades, one of which has a quirk-bead shape cut into it. This will get you started using your Scratch Stock with no more than final honing.
Question: I just purchased the Hock Tools Scratch Stock tool from Tools for Working Wood. Very nicely made! How do I start to make a cut for a molding on the end of the board? It seems almost impossible. For example, if I am trying to cut the molding design in a piece starting at the edge of the board, the cutter seems to get hung on the edge. I am using the pre-made cutter blade supplied with the tool. Also the blade has a bluing on both sides, so do I hone the blade to remove the bluing for a better cut.
