We love to receive photos of the tools you make with Hock Tools kits, blades and such. You inspire us here at Hock Tools and your photos inspire other woodworkers. All you have to do is send your photos to linda@hocktools.com. Linda selects the photos for the album. We look forward to seeing your pics. You'll hear from Linda soon after you send them. Thanks!

ADVANCING HANDTOOLS:
Sharpening a Steel
|

Holding the steel vertically makes it a bit easier to see the angle of the bevel. Hold the angle the same on both sides.
In Chapter 13 of The Perfect Edge; The Ultimate Guide to Sharpening for Woodworkers Ron addresses sharpening kitchen knives. Page 186 is dedicated solely to sharpening steels, not the metal
per se but the tool generically called a "steel." Now that Hock Tools is offering kitchen knife kits that woodworkers make themselves, it seems only appropriate to pull a quote or two from page 186. Or, even better, a paragraph or two.

WOODWORKING HANDTOOLS:
The Proud & Unplugged

is produced
by a handplane.
You can feel it.
There is nothing like
that satin touch
under your fingertip.
No plug, no noise.
A single woodworker,
a well-tuned handtool,
and the rhythm of work
on a nice piece of wood.

Greetings!
 | Ron Hock |
I'm happy to announce that Hock Tools is now offering two new kitchen knife kits.
Both kits are easy to build, easy to personalize to your taste and to your fit, and once complete will be easy to give away to the chef in your life. Both chef and paring knife come with a Hock-sharp blade, step-by-step instructions and an heirloom you will be remembered for making yourself and handing down.
Please read all about our new kits in this issue of Sharp & to The Point! That's it for now, other than to say that I hope to see you at WIA 2013 in Covington, Kentucky, October 18 - 20.
And, of course, please let me know if you need anything from Hock Tools.
Sincerely,
Ron Hock

I N - T H E - S P O T L I G H T:
New from Hock Tools -- Kitchen Knife Kits
(Orders taken beginning Monday, October 21st)
The top quality, high carbon tool steel in this blade makes a superior cutting tool in the kitchen. While stainless cutlery can be handy, nothing cuts better in the kitchen than high-carbon tool steel.
This is O1 tool steel, the same steel we've been using in our plane blades (and the knives in our kitchen) for decades. Yes, this knife blade is made from the same steel at the same hardness that you've come to value and rely on in Hock Tools' woodworking blades.
Now you can appreciate how easily it sharpens and how sharp it can get in your own kitchen. A little care will help prevent corrosion - wash and dry after each use, and never put it in the dishwasher.
Sharpen often and lightly - your new knife will be treasured for generations.
#KC500 $50.00 #KP350 $35.00
All blades come pre-sharpened, pre-drilled & with steel pins. Complete step-by-step instructions accompany each kit. All you'll need are two pieces of knife handle material approximately 1/4" x 1 1/4" x 5" (for the scales), epoxy (not the 5- minute formulas!) and a good amount of masking tape. We also recommend that you have shellac or similar finish, a drill press with 1/4" bit, a bandsaw, jigsaw or coping saw, 2 or 3 C-type or spring clamps and a belt sander.
Orders taken beginning Monday, October 21, 2013.
