Steve Bunck's Plane

We love to see what you do with our tools! Steve Bunck was kind enough to send photos of two planes he made from Hock Tools Kits, our small block plane and Krenov-style wooden handplane. Also, black and white photography, like film, carries with it special evocative powers, delivering an artful quality to Steve's photos of handplanes.

WOODWORKING HANDTOOLS:

The Proud & Unplugged

Shaving

The best surface
is produced by
a handplane.

You can see it.

You can feel it.

And there is nothing

like that satin touch

under your fingertip.

No plug, no noise.

A single woodworker,

A well-tuned handtool,

and the rhythm of work

on a nice piece of wood.

I hope this newsletter finds you happy and filled with summertime freedoms. Linda and I had such a relaxing time with my brother and sister in Tahoe that we added an extra day. Does that mean I'm getting wiser with this age thing? If so, I want more of that.

Even though the Modern Woodworkers Association is a whole group of woodworkers, Linda's put her article about MWA in our People Profile column. She spent about 30 years in non-profit work; from board member to administration to consultant, and is captivated by MWA's on and offline programs and that it is what she calls woodworker-centric. She's included a boatload of links for you to enjoy throughout the article and has asked me to invite you to click away on them.

We're beginning to plan our trip to Woodworking in America 2013 in Covington, KY. I'm looking forward to seeing my fellow Proud & Unplugged woodworking toolmakers and as many woodworkers I can see in two days. It's always a great time when we are all together.

And, of course, please let me know if you need anything from Hock Tools.

Sincerely,
Ron's Signature

Woodworking toolmakers these days -- especially we small, independents -- owe a real debt of gratitude to woodworking bloggers. These passionate, social-media-savvy woodworking enthusiasts bring a whole new dimension to the term, "word-of-mouth marketing."

Hock Tools would not be where it is today without bloggers to help spread the word about the benefits of using Hock Tools and handtools in general. Plus, their mission revolves around enjoyment of the craft, which means that woodworking bloggers bring conviviality to their talk about woodworking and tools.

MWA's Podcast Threesome

Left to right: Chris Adkins, High Rock WoodworkingDyami Plotke, Penultimate Woodshop and Tom Iovino, Tom's Workbench, in MWA Podcast mode. Podcasts are made into videos from Skype technology. Crazy cool. All 33 or 34 podcasts over almost 3 years are available on the MWA website.
