Reveal this Friday, January 31

After much anticipation our new school logo will be revealed to the Cedar Springs Waldorf School Community this Friday, January 31 at the school assembly. I'd love to share more, but don't want to spoil any surprises. Look for it as we begin to post online beginning Friday. I can't wait and I know you're going to love it!

12th Annual Auction Party Fundraiser

I am very excited to announce Auction Party invitations have been sent. Check your mailboxes and get your response cards in. Ticket prices this year are $40 per person (through Feb. 22nd). This price includes wine tasting, passed appetizers, a walking dinner, no-host cocktails and beer & wine bar, authentic costumes, amazing decorations, music, raffles, silent & live auction shopping. Enjoy a wonderful evening out while supporting Cedar Springs Waldorf School!

Hurry, the first 200 ticket purchasers will receive complimentary tasting glasses and ticket prices go up February 23rd. The event is going to be great!

This week is our big, final push to get donations in so they don't miss catalog publication. We are also wrapping up for catalog advertising and event underwriting and are still in need of $1500 in advertising and underwriting support. If you know any individuals or businesses who might be interested in promoting their business in our catalog, sponsoring the auction bid paddles, and even just a financial contribution in support of our event please let me know and have them contact me (530)642-9903,  Development@CedarSpringsWaldorf.org

Come enjoy food & wine tasting, and silent & live auctions! The costume theme is Victorian with a steampunk spin, in the colors black, white, and red. You can buy your tickets for the Night Circus online or in the school office and help support our largest fundraising event of the year!

10 Reasons Why Handheld Devices Should Be Banned for Children Under the Age of 12
By CHRIS ROWAN
Pediatric occupational therapist, biologist, speaker, author

The American Academy of Pediatrics and the Canadian Society of Pediatrics state infants aged 0-2 years should not have any exposure to technology, 3-5 years be restricted to one hour per day, and 6-18 years restricted to 2 hours per day (AAP 2001/13, CPS 2010). Children and youth use 4-5 times the recommended amount of technology, with serious and often life threatening consequences (Kaiser Foundation 2010, Active Healthy Kids Canada 2012). Handheld devices (cell phones, tablets, electronic games) have dramatically increased the accessibility and usage of technology, especially by very young children (Common Sense Media, 2013). As a pediatric occupational therapist, I'm calling on parents, teachers and governments to ban the use of all handheld devices for children under the age of 12 years. Following are 10 research-based reasons for this ban...

Music lessons spur emotional and behavioral growth in children, new study says
By AMY ELLIS NUT

Parents who have patiently sat through countless music recitals and questioned their sanity at encouraging all those trumpet or violin lessons need do so no longer. Even ear-splitting dissonance has an upside.

Music training not only helps children develop fine motor skills, but aids emotional and behavioral maturation as well, according to a new study, one of the largest to investigate the effects of playing an instrument on brain development. Read the full article here
