Line Trade Development Initiative Web Portal Launched!
We are very pleased to announce that today marks the launch of the web portal for the Line Trade Development (LTD) initiative.
The primary purpose of this project is to support and enhance the work of the line trade as it moves through a period of extensive technological change and growth in electrical grid operations. Effective training directly impacts the Powerline Technician's (PLT) ability to do their job safely and learn new technologies more effectively. This dedicated web portal will also provide a pan Canadian perspective on two key associated support roles to the trade, Cable Splicer and Utilities Arborist. This has been accomplished through the development of occupational standards and associated essential skills profiles. While these roles are active in all provinces, few have developed trades profiles for these support roles.

Bridging the Gap - Attracting and Retaining Women in the Electricity Industry
With the tremendous support from our partners, we are delighted to launch our new Bridging the Gap Initiative.
The purpose of this project is to look at practical ways to increase womens' participation in our industry workforce as we create an overall strategy that will effectively bring about meaningful gains both in terms of profit and productivity for your organization. Above all, it is an important step toward addressing the industry's skills shortage.
EHRC seeks to increase the recruitment and retention of women in the sector via the development of best practices that can be used nationally to support the industry in developing successful partnerships that will positively impact the representation of women in the sector. During this project we will talk to women actively working in the sector and work to determine what keeps them engaged. We will also develop and implement a number of pilot initiatives which will be designed and driven by our industry and education project champions. By targeting women at school and university levels, we are hoping to develop a potential labour pool that will seek out the education and training opportunities to enter our industry.
Over the coming weeks a steering committee comprised of industry stakeholders will meet to guide the project activities and discuss how the industry can best engage and retain more women in the industry We will continue our dialogue with colleges and training institutions, over 25 of whom have already expressed an interest in participating in the initiative.
Watch for more news over the coming months as the project develops and if you are interested in supporting this initiative please contact:
Anita Kolodziejski,
Coordinator of Projects & Stakeholder Relations
