Reclaiming, Reviving and Restoring the Family in Total Prosperity in 2013

Happy New Year and welcome to 2013. I believe God that this will be one of our best years yet. In fact, I am declaring that in 2013 we are "RECLAIMING, REVIVING AND RESTORING THE FAMILY IN TOTAL PROSPERITY"! Jesus tells us in John 10:10 that He came that we might have life and that we might have it more abundantly. Therefore, we can be fully confident that God's desire for us is that we be healthy and whole in every area of our lives. This includes being spiritually healthy, physically healthy, mentally and emotionally healthy and financially secure. Praise God for his wonderful plan and His loving-kindness for us.

Now, in order to help us move to this place of TOTAL prosperity we have programs and new ministry initiatives to support you and your family, as you walk-out God's plan for your lives. Make sure you sign up for our Dump the Debt Challenge. God wants you to be the lender not the borrower. It is not his will that His people be burdened down with debt. Also, take advantage of our Get Fit and Healthy Initiative. God has work for you to do and you need strength and health to do it. As John said, "Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers".

We are also offering a full range of Educational Opportunities to help you grow in your faith and mature as a disciple of Christ. And of course everything that we do will be supported with fasting and prayer. Our 21-Day Daniel Fast begins on January 7 through January 27. We are expecting breakthroughs in every area of our lives. The Lord continues to be with us here at The Life and we continue to move forward!

Reclaiming, Reviving and Restoring the Family in Total Prosperity!

New Year's Eve Celebration

From the Desk of Lady O

First Lady Ollie Reeves

Ladies,

I greet you in the Name of Jesus Christ! Giving glory and honor to the one who was born and die that we might have life.

First, I want to thank all of you who attended the Christmas tea. I want to let you know how much I love and care for you. I want to remind those who attended and encourage those who were not able to attend, concerning my message of the "Power of Words."

I shared with the ladies that there is power in the Word of God and that you have to learn how to trust in the Word and depend on His Word to see you through. Whatever storm God has led you into, He is the God Who has all the power necessary to quiet the storm. Don't panic! Remember that Jesus is on board. You can depend on His Word and on His promises because He said His promises are yes and amen! Speak life to your family, your children, your marriage and your finances. He said, "He would never leave you, nor forsake you, but that he would be there till the very end." (Heb. 13:5) You will never be defeated as long as you have faith and trust in the Word of God. Because God has a plan for you -- you might not see it, you may not understand it, you might not want to receive it, you might not even want to follow it, but God has a plan for you. Jeremiah (29:11) eloquently penned, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." God knows the plans He has for you! The Word says, "In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct they path." (Prov. 3:6)

There is a song that goes like this, "I thank God for the mountains, and I thank Him for the valleys, I thank Him for the storms He brought me through. For if I'd never had a problem, I wouldn't know God could solve them, I'd never know what faith in God could do. Through it all, through it all, I've learned to trust in Jesus, I've learned to trust in God."

In a few weeks, it will be 2013, the year of blessings! The world says that the number 13 is a superstitious number, but 13 will be a supernatural year for the people of God!!

May the Lord keep you and bless you in the coming year!

In His Love,

Lady O

Evangelism for Life

Greetings from The Life's Outreach Ministries,

We are beginning a new year. Unfortunately, there are those who during this time of year are experiencing the adversities of life; be it financial, health issues or some tragic situation like the families of the Newtown community in Connecticut, who fell victim to a troubled young man. Not to mention the social ills still plaguing our society during one of the most celebrated times of the year. Holidays have become so commercialized that its real meaning has become distracted by the world's system of material things that people tend to feel hopeless because their lives do not fit the modeled life that's advertised in the media.

But, as believers, we have been commissioned to spread the good news of the gospel, which is Jesus Christ! This is our commission year round. So as you begin this new year, remember to allow your "beautiful feet" to spread the love, hope, salvation and peace of Jesus Christ to those whom you path will cross.

Baby Feet Beautiful Feet

by "Cindy Wyatt"

Having beautiful feet is being a witness and soul winner to spread the good news of the gospel to every lost sinner

Having beautiful feet is going where sent following our savior's command without relent

Having beautiful feet is obeying the great commission being faithful to the savior's calling and being on a mission

Having beautiful feet is sharing the gospel with those who've never heard explaining the way of salvation in God's Holy Word

Having beautiful feet is proclaiming the good news to all who will hear remembering Jesus died for all and to Him every soul is dear

Having beautiful feet is showing the ungodly that Jesus died for them and they can be forgiven and receive eternal life when they trust in Him

Oh how beautiful are the feet of those who witness for God's glory the faithful servants whose purpose is to tell the gospel story

Dear Jesus, please give me beautiful feet help me to care about souls and not be asleep (Romans. 10:15)

May God bless you as your beautiful feet go sharing the good news of Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world!  "For to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord." (Luke 2:11)

Moving Forward By Faith

by Minister Sonia Mayo

Moving Forward (Philippians 3:13-14)

Many of us know the song "Moving Forward" by Israel Houghton. We sing the song, we quote the words "I'm not going back, I'm moving ahead, Here to declare to you my past is over in you". We sing along with it, but do we really mean what we say or is it just another song?

To move forward is an action word. The Free Online Dictionary defines to move as: to change in position from one point to another, to progress.

I am reminded how God told Abram in Genesis 12 to leave his country and his family to go to a land he wanted to show him.  God had another plan for his life, but the choice was up to him.  Abram could have chosen to stay in a place where he was comfortable and familiar or step out on faith and leave the past behind in order to receive the promises of God.

I am sure it wasn't easy for Abram as it isn't for most of us when having to move to an unfamiliar place. That's where faith kicks it. When God wants to shift us or take us to a new place in him, we either have to trust him and go or continue to stay in the place of comfort, never progressing but staying in the same place.

Hebrews 11:6 tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God. Abram wanted to please God and out of his obedience God promised to bless him and make him a blessing.  Our obedience to God will not only cause us to be blessed but those connected to us as well.

So as we transition into another year, as we move forward in life, leaving the past behind, we must trust God and move forward by faith. It takes faith to do the impossible and that's trusting in the word of God for our lives.

Remember, as God said in Jeremiah 29:11, I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

God has a plan! So we must move forward and leave the past behind in order to move into the promises of God.

Serving & Leading at The Life

2013 Servant and Leadership Training (SALT) Program

by Minister Fredrick Sanders, Director SALT Ministry

Salt "And if a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a ditch" (New King James Version, Matthew 15:14). In the aforementioned quote, Jesus highlights the importance of equipping and developing Christian leaders. Without proper training and development, leaders may not be practicing or exhibiting behavior that is consistent with modern or sound Christian leadership principles.

Are you developing as a Christian leader? What books or articles have you read lately that have contributed to your development as a Christian leader? Developing into an effective and confident Christian leader has to be a deliberate, continuous, and progressive process. Moreover, this development is a shared responsibility. In other words, each leader has a responsibility for self-development and the senior leadership at NLAMI has a responsibility to equip its leaders. The NLAMI Servant and Leadership Training Ministry is designed to train and develop Christian leaders at all levels in the art of Servant-Leadership.

I want to take this opportunity to update you on the Servant and Leadership Training (SALT) Plan for 2013. SALT will occur the first Friday of each month from 7:00 - 9:30 PM. Some of the topics that we have planned for the year include: Maintaining Balance (God, Family, and Ministry), Ministering to the Needy, Relational Leadership, Marketplace Ministry, Telecare, Basic Bible Study Techniques, and How to Use Reference Material (Concordances, Dictionaries, etc.). Ministers and Ministers-in-Training will also be given the opportunity to develop and preach sermonettes throughout the year. In addition to the above topics, Bishop Reeves will teach a host of subjects that will challenge, encourage, and develop you as a Servant Leader.

I highly encourage all leaders to consistently attend and actively participate in the upcoming Servant and Leadership Training Program. I look forward to growing with each of you.

Single Life

Christian Singles Single But Not Alone

by Deacon Regina Washington

It's not uncommon for Christian singles to feel depressed during the holiday season. If we're not half of a couple, we can find holidays a hard time to get through.

Beating the holiday blues is a matter of focus. When we get our focus off ourselves and on to other things, it can make any holiday enjoyable again. Paul quoted Jesus as saying, "'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'" (Acts 20:35)

Why not be the gift yourself during this holiday season. Spend time with a friend or relative over lunch or a cup of coffee. Visit someone in a nursing home, senior living home or the hospital. Take food to feed the homeless...and serve them. Those that have children, take them with you so that they and you can really understand how blessed you all truly are; blessed to be a blessing!

Then focus on Jesus; our gift! We will never receive anything more valuable than Him. Jesus makes it possible for single people to get through life, not just at Christmas, but all year 'round. He gives us meaning when we have none. When we focus on Jesus Christ, we find our bearings again. If you can grasp that Jesus, out of pure love, sacrificed Himself for you, that truth will carry you through each day.

Wishing you a prosperous New Year!!!

Financing Your Life

fiscal cliff The Fiscal Cliff

by Bro. Marocco Roberts

Scripture:  Psalm  107:27-29 28 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress.  29 He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea[b] were hushed.  30 They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven.

The impending fiscal cliff could be directly related to what we experienced with Hurricane Sandy. There are many forecasts, predictions, complex systems tracking outcomes, gut feelings, intuition, and "spidey-sense" out there, but they are all in the future and the final outcome is still uncertain. The government has big decisions to make and there are a lot of possibilities; But DO NOT PANIC, JUST GET PREPARED!  This is the same way we were cautioned to prepare for the last major storm experienced on the East Coast and other areas, "Hurricane Sandy".

We all knew a storm was coming but we did not know exactly where the destruction would ultimately be.  I live in Woodbridge VA.  The Storm was not likely to hit our area very hard.  However, I was also on a cruise ship and destined to be out to sea going to Bermuda, but decided the uncertain path of the storm was reason enough to get off the ship and head back home.

I responsibly prepared for the storm to protect my family and my home as best I could. This is what is going on in our country with the fiscal cliff. There are big decisions being made to protect our nation and the US Economy as best as we can.  It will affect everyone to a different degree and that degree will be relative to each situation and duration is unknown. So our preparations, although different, will be similar.

Let's treat our Budgets or Spend Plans like our homes, property, and families and look at the following tips for Storm Preparedness as they relate to finances:

  1. Trust in God for all your needs and provision!
  2. Protect your home, cover windows:  Ensure you have a budget in place for changes in your income level due to pending decisions that have to be made.
  3. Stock up on critical items or install a generator: Begin saving additional cash focus on building or conserving your emergency savings account.
  4. Clean up outside your home shrubs and trees, clear gutters, stay indoors and away from windows: Cut frivolous spending do not take unnecessary risks with your money.
  5. Know your surroundings; listen for updates from the government: Pay attention to the news and websites like IRS.gov for updated information. Be sure you have an idea of your county or community leader's positions are on these decisions to see what the overall impact in your area might be. What precautions have they taken? Are they prepared?
  6. Know where critical items are located and have them handy and make note of agencies that can assist you if you face a true hardship from the impact: Take precautions and research resources in your area that can assist you with finances or financial guidance to help you prepare and/or help you through, like your Credit Union or church.

Don't fear, don't panic, and no evacuations! Just pray and prepare your house for a "Financial Storm" of varying degrees; but it too will pass. Remember you have the authority to tell the Financial Storm to pass, it won't last, go away, I command you to move today, when God speaks, you have to cease, and that's what you tell the Financial Storm. This is the key to Financing Your Life!

Women of Excellence at The Life

Power of Words

The Power of Words

by Elder Pat Lowery, Director Women of Excellence Ministry

First, I want to say that if you missed the W.O.E. Christmas Tea with Lady O, you missed a treat!  We had about 80 ladies to attend this event.

The word Lady O shared was simplistic, but yet it's a necessary practical application suitable in the life of every Believer.  So this month, I want to echo that message as food for thought.  You know "words" are one of the most powerful forces.  They can be used for good or evil. Your words can change the course of a day, the course of a life.  It's important that you use your words in positive, powerful ways.  In doing so, you may ....

*  encourage a husband to achieve his dreams;

*  impart confidence into a child's heart;

*  encourage a friend's waning hope;

*  draw someone to the love of Christ; or

*  open the door to a powerful prayer life.

As a woman, the potential to impact the lives of others will yield profound possibilities as you use this mighty force and speak life to those around you.  There are many examples of women in the Bible to model, as we embrace God's Incredible Gift!  Paul broke it down to the church in Rome when he said:

"So what exactly was Moses saying?

The word that saves is right here,

as near as the tongue in your mouth,

as close as the heart in your chest.

It's the word of faith that welcomes God to go to work and set things right for us. This is the core of our preaching."(Romans 10:8, Message)

That's it!  The power of our words (agreeing with God's Word), gives way for God to move on our behalf and in the lives of others.  This year give the free gift of God's Word. He freely gave to us and the Word admonishes us to freely give, as we have received. If we look around, God will give us countless opportunities to bless those around us. What better gift to give than the gift of life and hope!  The ability to give this gift is not predicated on our budget, He paid the price so it costs us nothing, but obedience!

May the Lord bless you and keep you, may He be gracious to you and give you peace!

Unstoppable Youth at The Life

Youth Bible Bowl Ministry

by Elder Renee Johnson

Bible Bowl

Exists to Promote:

  • Knowledge of God's Word
  • Christian Character
  • Community
  • Discipleship

Bible Bowl is a ministry for youth in grades sixth to twelve (Middle and High School Divisions) which combines Bible study with Christian competition and fellowship. The purpose is to give our youth a firm foundation for their faith through the systematic study, memorization, and application of Scripture. Each quarter, a designated portion of Scripture will be chosen as the study text.  Weekly practices will be held (in-person, conference calls, web-cast, etc.) consisting of learning and applying the designated text, devotions, quizzing, plus lots of fun and fellowship.

Our Unstoppable Youth Ministry will hold our inaugural Bible Bowl meeting at New Life on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 12:00pm. At this time we will assign teams, discuss rules and provide study materials. Teams will consist of 3 to 5 players, who will initially compete against other New Life teams and eventually expand to ICEC churches and other surrounding churches later in 2013 (trophy, ribbons, plaque or possible scholarships/bonds will be given as prizes for the end of the year competition). All scripture will be taken from the New International Version (NIV). Remember David's words found in Psalm 119:105, "Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path."  Let's do our best to make that verse come to life for each youth involved with the Bible Bowl.  Parents please bring all of your middle and high schoolers out for an exciting and enriching time in GOD!  For any additional information please see any one of New Life's Unstoppable Youth leaders.

Here are ideas to use in preparing/studying for Bible Bowl:

    1. Meet at least one time per week (try not to over-work the students, especially at first).
    2. Use colored pencils to color code the scripture:  Blue-Quotes, Yellow-Names, Orange-verse numbers, Green-places, Red or pink-objects and other nouns
    3. Encourage parents to help in study
    4. Make a schedule to follow to cover a certain amount of material per week
    5. Split up students to have practice contests or tests
    6. Compliment students in front of the congregation, in church newsletter, in front of parents, etc.
    7. Remind them that all that they learn will help them in life and for eternity
    8. Challenge and encourage each student to participate.  Their confidence and desire will grow as they learn.
    9. Use free Bible downloads and apps for various phones and computers
    10. As you study try not only to know the facts-try to understand what is going on.
    11. Read the Bible first without your study guide.  Take short notes or write down words and items you do not understand.
    12. Look at the guide and see if it helps you understand (if not, ask your parents, coach, teacher or Pastor)
    13. Remember to start with PRAYER in your study!
    14. Do not get discouraged!

Lastly, memorize this verse as you study, II Timothy 2:15, "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth."  Blessings!

Daughters of Destiny
Daughters of Destiny Ministry

by Elder Rachel Jones and Elder Renee Johnson

The Word of God says in Titus 2:4 "let the elder women teach the younger women..."

The Daughters of Destiny Ministry (DoD), under the leadership of First Lady O, would like to extend an invitation to all teen girls, ages 13-18, to become a part of this mentoring ministry. Our goal is to empower young women to be successful, professional, and productive citizens, obtaining wealth while walking in the wisdom of God. Our purpose is to instill Godly youth to be effective witnesses and to maintain a committed lifestyle as they discover the power to change lives and declare a generation to change the world.

This past year our DoDs had sessions pertaining to Prayer, Forgiveness, Relationships, Attitudes/First Impressions, Makeup and Skin Care, and Etiquette. We attended the "Blacks in Wax" museum in Baltimore; held a "Pajamas with a Purpose Sleepover" and a Back to School Fellowship along with a host of other trips to support our daughters in school and other community events.

Please look for us in the vestibule starting in January 2013 to sign your daughters up for this great journey into Godly womanhood. Our meetings take place the fourth Saturday of every month at New Life from 3:00pm-5:00pm. For the January 26 session we would like for all parents and daughters to attend so that you can get additional information about Daughters of Destiny; meet the leaders/volunteers; and to discuss the upcoming Debutante Ball in September 2013 for current participants. We look forward to fellowshipping with you soon. Blessings!

Fit for Life

  Stretching

Get Fit and Healthy Initiative

by Brother John Butler

Beginning this New Year, The Fit for Life Ministry will sponsor a "Get Fit and Healthy Initiative".  This challenge is not considered to be a competition between members, but more as a commitment and new way of life for all members as we all seek collectively to obtain and/or maintain good healthy habits and to prosper in good health as God wants us too.  1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (KJV) states:

What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

The challenge is designed not to be overbearing but it will require a commitment.  Do not expect to change years of habits just overnight.   After all, the weight did not accumulate overnight. Your outcome will be mostly contingent upon you being disciplined and doing the right things for your body.  Here is what you need to do:

  1. Sign up on December 31st from 8pm - 9pm before the New Year's Eve service at C.D. Hylton High School for your official weigh-in.  Please note:  weight will only be known and/or seen by the coaches
  2. Attend scheduled meetings that will assist you with your fitness journey.
  3. Stay in contact with coaches who will help you plan various fitness activities you may choose to take part in, e.g.  Zumba, Cardio Kickboxing, Cardio Senior-cise, Boot-Camp, Brisk Walking, Shadow Boxing.

As always, please consult your healthcare provider before starting any exercise, wellness or workout regimen.
