From the Bishop

Best Christmas Gift You Can Give
Praise the Lord! It is so hard to believe that it is December already and the year is coming to an end. As we approach this Christmas season, remember that this is the year of twelve and organization. Let this be the year that we organize and get our financial house in order. How many times have you said you were going to do your budget only to fall back into the old habit of winging it as you go alone? This type of financial planning has got to stop or we will never get out of financial bondage.
Jesus is the reason for the season and let us never lose sight of the main thing which is Christ. I do believe in the spirit of giving and we should give to others and be a blessing to our loved ones. However I do not believe that Jesus came to set us free from bondage only to see us go into financial bondage on his birthday. It is not the amount of the gift that counts but the love in which it is given and received. The main purpose behind the holiday should be love. Neither the number of gifts nor the cost of gifts can take the place of someone in your life who truly loves you for you.
Let's take an extra step this year and give your family the gift of time. Give your children, your spouse and family some extra time where you dedicate yourself just to them with no distractions. Do something special with them to demonstrate just what they mean to you and how much you love them.
Whenever I speak with those who have had a loved one to transition, they almost always say, "I wish I had spent more time with him/her." So buck the norm, instead of the extra time in malls, and stores with strangers, make a point to spend special time with our families and loved ones during this season of love.
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and the most prosperous year ever in the name of the prince of peace, Jesus.

Your Spiritual Life
No More Residue by Minister Sonia Mayo
The scripture says in Luke 5:37-38 No one puts new wine into old wineskins, or else the new wine will burst the skins, and it will be spilled, and the skins will be destroyed. But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.
"Residue is the remainder of something after removal of parts or a part".
We have been hearing the word lately that God is doing a new thing, or that God is trying to do a new thing, but the new thing God has been trying to do is within us. So many of us are still going through transitions in different areas of our lives (finances, ministry, relationships, health, jobs, etc.) in which God is really allowing change and some stretching within us to take place. Many of us don't like change but in order for us to continue to grow and go forth into the things God has prepared for us, we must allow the change, embrace the change, and let God perform the healing in our lives that needs to take place.
God desires that we all be healed, delivered and set free from all past hurts, setbacks and disappointments. He doesn't want us to continue carrying the weight of things from the past into each New Year. Remember, the word of God says in John 10:10
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; (but God says)....I have come that they may have life, and have it to the fullest.
The enemy would desire for us to stay hurt, hold onto unforgiveness and stay bound by the things of the past, but God wants the old things of the past removed, so that the healing and refreshing of his spirit can take full residence and push us forth into our destiny.
So as we begin to transition into the New Year, God doesn't want all the old stuff transitioning with us. The scripture says he came to set us free!! John 8:36 says: If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
Today if you will allow Him... Ask God to help you let go of the past hurts and disappointments and allow Him to heal you completely and remove all traces of residue from the past and make you whole again!
Now you are free to move forth!

Fit for Life
Preparing Your Body For a Fast
by Georgette Patterson
Many Christians end and/or begin the New Year with a personal or corporate fast. The Life will take part in various fasts in the coming year. You should begin now to prepare your mind, body and spirit that you may be more able to complete the fast and receive all God has for you. Here are some tips on fasting provided by eHow.com.
1. Educate yourself as much as you can about the fasting technique you are going to use.
2. Write down all the instructions for your fast and organize a plan and schedule on paper before you begin. This is important because once the fast begins, you might try to convince yourself to quit. The schedule can then act as a contract you have made with the fast that you must keep. Remind yourself why you are doing the fast and remember that it is important.
3. Taper off your addictions in the days prior to your fast. Cut down on caffeine, salt, sugar etc. If you cut them off all of a sudden, expect to experience headaches, stomachaches and a general feeling of discomfort.
4. Begin eating smaller meals prior to your fast. Resist the temptation to eat a big "last supper" the night before the fast. Cutting down your meals a few days before signals your mind, stomach, and appetite for the fast.
5. Gather everything you need for your fast before you begin.
Tips & Warnings
~ Plan activities during your fast. Time passes more quickly when you are busy.
~ Avoid heavy exercising while fasting. Light yoga, walking and gardening are excellent ways to stimulate your metabolism without straining your body.
~ Pregnant women and children should not fast.
~ Consult your doctor before you begin your fast; especially if you have diabetes, heart disease, ulcerative colitis, or epilepsy; if you are under 18 or underweight; or if you are on medications. Understand that many traditional doctors might be hesitant to recommend a fast.

RESTORING LIVES COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
IT'S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!!
Elder Kylisa Harris
The holiday season is upon us and is in full swing! During the Thanksgiving outreach, we were able to bless over 350 families with turkeys and groceries for Thanksgiving! Over 50 volunteers came out over the week leading to the event and during the event to help sort and distribute food.
For those who missed the opportunity to volunteer or make a monetary donation, there is still time! We need lots of volunteers to help us sort and package toys from Toys for Tots on December 17th for over 400 children, and prepare grocery bags to be distributed during the Christmas outreach that will take place on Saturday, December 22nd from 11am to 2pm.
Since its inception in 2001, Restoring Lives Community Development Corporation has been impacting Prince William County and surrounding communities with its outreach and education initiatives. To its credit, the RLCDC has partnered with local and national businesses and organizations to distribute over 15 tons of food and thousands of articles of clothing; awarded over $125,000 in college scholarships; provided transitional and temporary housing for local area families; provided approximately 8,000 children backpacks filled with school supplies and provided hundreds of families food and gifts during the holiday season.
Thank you all so much for the outpour of love and support! We encourage you to visit our website at www.rlcdc.org and email us at rlcdc@rlcdc.org.
