The coming week ... possibly two... are special in that they give us a little breather between our week of giving thanks and the celebration of the Christmas Season. Our tummies are still full and some of us got a jump start on our holiday shopping with the help of 'Black Friday' and 'Cyber Monday.' This week is like a little gift that's been given to us. A time when we can pull out the decorations, sing along to our favorite Christmas songs and ease into the season as we usher in the wonderful month of December. December... A month full of parties, sparkle, merriment, time with family and friends, and incredible weather that makes our friends up north envious. The cooler days are invigorating, making it possible to handle the hustle and bustle that awaits us. I urge our FLASHERS to take a deep breath and enjoy this 'breather' week.
In this issue you will find holiday tips, craft ideas, a full calendar, (look for our printed calendar around town tomorrow.) If you need a hand with any kind of referral, gift ideas, holiday help, baby sitter so you can get to that holiday party, a place or family to receive your donation, a seamstress, caterer...whatever it is, our FLASHERS are the ones in-the-know and they are always in the spirit of giving. I encourage you to try out our bulletin board where your posts are always free. (Unless you are a business and stand to make a profit. Then there is a small fee.) Let the sparkle and shimmer of this magical time begin!

LAUREN WEAVER
IS A POSITIVE PERSON! ~ Follow up!
Last week we introduced our FLASHERS to Lauren Weaver. I wanted to run a follow-up this week to let you know what a grand success her event was this past weekend. Lauren raised over $700 in cash for her Christmas Boxes which will be donated to the homeless and she collected an incredible number of non perishable items as well. The band, Matt Manning and The Revelers, donated 100% of the tips they received and Waldos and Lee Olsen were incredibly generous as well for hosting and supporting Lauren's Way. If you were out of town or didn't get by Waldos this past weekend, you still have a chance to support Lauren's efforts. There are drop boxes at Waldos on Ocean Drive and the new CenterState Bank at 855 21st Street. Specific needs to finish the 150 'Christmas Boxes' include: deodorant, rain ponchos, and bike tire repair kits. You can also make a financial contribution on her website at www.laurensway.org. If you would like to read the feature last week on Lauren, click here.

GIFT WRAPPING TIPS
If you don't have the space to set up a permanent area for gift wrapping a la Martha Stewart, (and who does?), here are some ideas that might help.
1. Have a clear plastic 'shoe box' just for storing wrapping supplies...scissors, tape, tags, etc.
2. As tempting as all those colorful wrapping papers may be, stick to a few solid color rolls that can be used year round. (We like glossy white!) Make the packages distinctive with different color ribbons.
3. Store paper rolls in a tall waste basket or can. (Those holiday popcorn cans are ideal and you get to eat the popcorn first!)
4. Rather than fancy holiday labels, use plain white ones from an office supply store. You can use a colored ink pen and write a short personal note on the larger size.
5. A clear plastic shoe bag that hangs over the door is ideal for storing ribbon rolls. If you don't have a spot for this, buy a cardboard file box with a lid from the office supply store.
6. A clean empty pizza box is ideal for storing tissue papers to keep them wrinkle free.
7. If you don't already have one, invest in a folding card table to wrap your gifts on and set it up in an out-of-the-way corner for the duration of the holidays. It will come in handy year round and can be stored under a bed.

Don't miss the chance to visit A Second Chance. I stopped by a week ago and found many treasures which included a new office desk for only $105 and a set of antique depression glassware. I was on cloud nine when I left and will definitely be heading back during December!
Try it...you'll like it!

 CHUCKLE OF THE WEEK
SMART WOMAN DRIVER
A woman making a left turn at the intersection was hit by a man driving straight ahead. Although both cars were severely damaged, neither one of them were hurt.
"We were certainly lucky," the woman said. "Look, that bottle of Scotch on my back seat didn't even break! Maybe we should open it and celebrate our good luck!"
"That's a great idea" he said. "It might help to calm my nerves." Opening the bottle, he chugs about a third of it, then hands the bottle to the woman who immediately replaces the cap.
"Aren't you going to have any," he asks?
"No," she replied. "I think I'll just sit here and wait for the police."

FOODS TO AVOID WITH HIGH BLOOD PRESSU
HEALTH TIP
RE
Foods with high salt or sugar content, as well as extra calories and/or are fried or high in fat (especially trans fats) can elevate your blood pressure. Many frozen dinners, canned foods and fast food meals include several of these. Along with salty foods, obesity is a significant determinant for high blood pressure. The extra weight puts surplus strain on the heart and slows down the blood flow. Foods to avoid if you have high blood pressure include Pickles, Margarine with trans fats (read the label), Donuts, Candy, Ramen Noodles, Bacon, Frozen Pot Pies, Fast food Fries, Sauerkraut, Canned Chicken Noodle Soup, Red Meat, Table Salt and Alcohol. To watch a slideshow from the Health Central Website that explains why these foods should be avoided, Click Here.

WEEKEND PROJECT
PINE-CONE TREES
While at our farm in Georgia for Thanksgiving, my sister and I saw beautiful (but expensive) pine-cone trees at a store in Thomasville. Since there were tons of cones on the ground at the farm, we decided we could make them ourselves. I found this 'how-to' site on the web that uses the store bought scented cones. For directions, Click Here. The decorative tree we saw was much larger than the one pictured and stood about 3' high and about 30" high. It was also natural in color with just a shimmer clear varnish. I can't wait to try it.
NOTE: Cutting cones is easier with a drill saw. If cut crosswise at the bottom, the bottoms look like flowers.

WILL MARFORI Ever wonder what it is like for a person to live with a disability? Will Marfori knows and he will share parts of his experience. Born with Cerebral Palsy, Will has not allowed his handicap to prevent him from entertaining audiences. His whole life people have always told him you can't do this or that, and Will has been proving them wrong. He has been called inspirational and amazing, but is more concerned with being called funny. He spent much of his adolescence being made fun off and feeling like an outsider, now he's bringing people into his world. From physical therapy to dating, he is going to speak about his opinions. The ironic part is that things that really bother him bother everybody. The son of a musician, Will spent a lot of his childhood on stage in front of an audience. Performing comes naturally to him even though common activities do not.

BEAUTY TIP OF THE WEEK Sponsored by:
Quick and Easy Holiday Make-up Tips Add Shimmer to Eyes - You can get shimmery eyes in several ways. Try a shimmery shadow and mix the shadow with water by dampening your eye shadow brush with water. The water will help create a dense metallic pigment that's not too soft. Some shadows are barely there, but you want your shadow to have heft and shimmer.
- Apply shimmery shadow above the iris in your eye and on the inner corner of the eye. This will open up the eye, lighten up what is usually a dark area of the lid, and helps eyes look amazing in photos.
Highlighter Should be Your Best Friend: Highlighting powders are a staple in any makeup artist's makeup bag and act as a brightener making skin luminous and dewy. Jane Iredale's Triple Pearl Finishing Powder incorporates three pearl-derived ingredients that deliver natural skin care and anti-aging benefits. The non-comedogenic powder may be applied over foundation to smooth and brighten skin, adding a luxurious finishing touch. Here's how to apply: Put your chin to your chest and look into a mirror. Swipe a line of highlighting powder under the eye, along the nose, under the chin along the cheek bones and on the décolletage'.
