So, what is on my personal gratitude list??

LAUREN WEAVER
 IS A POSITIVE PERSON!
I am so excited to introduce our FLASHERS to this week's 'Positive Person', Lauren Weaver. Lauren is a 6th grader at Master's Academy and the daughter of Ryan and Melissa. Lauren is setting a great example for not only her younger sister Sara, but for the entire community as well. Lauren set out on her journey to help the homeless five years ago when she was only seven years old. She passed the same, sad looking man, in tattered clothes, sitting on a bench when she went to the park each day. The response to her endless questions caused her to become aware of what it meant to be 'homeless.' Lauren's continued concern for the man led her mother to encourage her to think of a way that she could personally help. Lauren took all of her money from her bank and with the matching funds and direction from The Source, Lauren purchased a Christmas gift of hygiene items, snacks, and socks for the man. She placed it all in a shoe box, wrapped it in gold paper and personally delivered it to the man. His reaction inspired Lauren to take her effort to the next level. The result is Lauren's Way. With help from her family, friends and local residents, Lauren's Way has become a community wide effort to make a difference for the homeless of Indian River County. Each year she hosts a food drive that helps stock The Source's Pantry and she collects items to make 150 Christmas gift boxes that are given out by The Source. This year's drive is taking place at Waldo's Restaurant THIS SATURDAY FROM 1:00 - 5:00 PM. Please help support this amazing young lady's effort. She will be there personally to accept and thank you for your donation. Visit her website for more information on how you can help. There are currently 774 homeless individuals in our county and 150 of those are children. Let's all help! Lauren has shown us the way! Lauren received the 2012 Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy award as well as the 2008 Young Hero Award presented by the Treasure Coast Pilot Club. She enjoys swimming, gymnastics, and scrapbooking with her mom. She is inspired by Bethany Hamilton who is an American professional surfer who is best known for surviving a shark attack in which she lost her left arm. She overcame the injury to ultimately return to professional surfing.
Lauren you are an incredible young lady. On this Thanksgiving Day may we all be inspired by YOU and reminded of the difference each one of us can make....if only we decide to do so! We look forward to following you and your efforts and wish you and your family the warmth and love that you have given to others! THANK YOU!

 The 3.8% Tax
Effective January 1, 2013 Real Estate Scenarios & Examples
There is a lot of confusion and misinformation regarding the 3.8% tax connected to the Obamacare bill, causing many buyers and sellers stress. Beginning January 1, 2013, a new 3.8 percent tax on some investment income will take effect. Since this new tax will affect some real estate transactions, it is important for you to be informed in order to understand the impact. It's a complicated tax, that will affect individuals differently. Here is a link to an informational brochure from the National Association of Realtors® that will help explain the complexities of the tax. If you have further concerns or questions, they should be directed to your accountant or tax attorney. As always, I am always here for your real estate needs and look forward to helping you. |

HOLIDAY HEALTH TIP
Do you know that the average Thanksgiving dinner has over 2000 calories? It can be a real challenge if you are watching your waistline. The following are some eating tips from registered dietician Gloria Tsang so you can still look and feel good after the Thanksgiving dinner without having to deprive yourself.
|
Healthy Eating Tips for Thanksgiving
| |
Don't go to the Thanksgiving dinner hungry. Many of us don't eat earlier in the day because we're "saving room" for the big meal. Wrong!
Thanksgiving dinner is not an all-you-can-eat buffet.
Fill your plate half with vegetables, one quarter (4 oz.) of lean turkey and the rest with a starch of your choice.
Eat slowly and stop when you are full.
Turkey - go skinless.
Side Dishes - watch your portion size.
Make a conscious choice to limit high fat items.
Mashed potatoes are usually made with butter and milk; green bean casseroles are often prepared with cream of mushroom soup, cheese and milk and topped with fried onions; candied yams are loaded with cream, sugar and marshmallows. Simply limit yourself to a smaller helping size. This way you can sample all the different foods. Drink lots of water. It keeps you hydrated and fills your stomach. |

THANKSGIVING FOOTBALL SCHEDULE
NFL games on Thanksgiving Day have become as much of a tradition as Turkey and Pumpkin Pie. You may even want to plan serving your dinner around the game times! To get the full schedule, Click Here

MACY'S THANKSGIVING PARADE
.What better way to keep the little ones occupied Thanksgiving morning than to watch the Macy's parade on TV that will usher Santa Claus into New York City? It's hard to believe that in nine short days it will be December. Most of us remember watching it ourselves when we were kids. (Wasn't that only yesterday?) ENJOY!!

~ BEAUTY TIP OF THE WEEK ~
Sponsored by:
Age Spots, Sun spots, Freckles, Liver spots...
Can I Fade these Dark Spots?
Dark spots clinically known as "Solar lentigo" or hyper pigmentation, and commonly referred to as "Old age spots", Sun Spots, and Liver spots are blemishes on the skin associated with aging and exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun. They range in color from light brown to red
or black and are located in areas most often exposed to the sun, particularly the hands, face, shoulders, arms and forehead, and the scalp if bald.
The term "Liver Spots" was derived from the fact that they were once incorrectly believed to be caused by liver problems, but they are physiologically unrelated to the liver. From the age of 40 onward the skin is less able to regenerate from sun exposure, and liver spots are very common in this age group, particularly in those who spend time in the sun.
Despite being a benign condition, liver spots are sometimes considered unsightly and some people choose to have them removed. Many products and procedures can be effective in treating these unsightly spots.
Broad Spectrum Sun Protection is a must. Inhibiting sun exposure helps to prevent discoloration from forming and allows the skin to regenerate new, undamaged skin cells.
Kojic Acid - a naturally occurring substance, is a mild inhibitor of the formation of pigment in plant and animal tissues.
Exfoliants such as Alpha and Beta Hydroxy acids like Glycolic, Salicylic and Lactic, and procedures like Microdermabrasion exfoliate (remove or slough off) the damaged surface layer of skin and stimulate new cellular turnover.
Hydroquinone 4% a prescription strength product found in medical grade products used topically is very effective at erasing hyper pigmentation.
IPL - Intense pulsed light therapy, breaks off the deposited areas of melanin on the surface of the skin leaving lighter skin behind, usually in one treatment.
