The Lob Shot
This month we bring into play the lob shot.  See our newest teacher, Stefany King, demonstrate golf's highest-flying-short-game shot in the video that accompanies this tip on Facebook. Stefany is also heading up our Fall Junior Golf Series on Saturdays beginning Oct. 3.
You can execute this soft flying lob shot with anything from a 54 degree sand wedge to a 64 degree lob wedge. Whichever club you choose, you must lay the club face wide open before you take your grip, and the more grass under the ball the better. DO NOT try this shot if the ball is lying in the dirt or an extremely tight lie.
 The set-up:
Grip the club mid-way down on the handle.Your club face must appear to be aimed right of your target when addressing the ball.To off-set the open clubface, your body line should run left of the target with an open stance like in Eddie Young's bunker tip in April. Your ball should be positioned forward of center with your open stance.

TIP: For ball position in the short game  (reflecting a right-handed golfer) think  Right foot for Roll,  Left foot for Loft!!
5.  Now, make a 3/4 length backswing to a full high finish and always feel the down and out impact force and motion through the ball.
TURN, TURN, TURN...keep the body moving back, down, and through the ball. Be aggressive in this swing because the open face and open stance equal high ball flight but not much distance.

Many golfers fear the lob shot because the open face of the club suggests a scooping motion through the ball with the hands which is a major no-no. You are still hitting down, thank you Sir Isaac Newton. Again, like last month's tip on the downhill pitch with a lob wedge, get in some practice reps before trying this on the golf course.
Next month, under a tree with a bump and run pitch into a hill out of the dirt! No worries--as always, we will show you how it is done.
