Greetings!
We don't know about you, but our summer has simply flown by. Time has a way of slipping by when you're very busy.
That's why it's always a good idea to "paws" and reflect, to remind ourselves of the things that matter. Our pets are such a huge part of our lives, it's certainly worth it to spoil them a bit!
So take a moment to enjoy some sweet stories of the lengths some pet owners will go to in order to show their pets they love them.
And once you're done playing with your pet, maybe you could take in a play yourself! The Pet Maven is pleased to be able to offer a discount to a new play "The Red Handed Otter," sure to delight any fan of four-legged friends!

A Labor of Love Never Feels Like Work
Many have been touched by recent photos of John Unger and his dog Schoep floating peacefully in the still waters of Lake Superior. The swims are John's way to help soothe his aging best friend's arthritis. Other owners buy booties or carriages to protect tender tootsies, and even encourage getting up on the furniture with ramps and steps for diminutive doggies.
Cat lovers are not immune to this syndrome of lavishing love on their little friends. One stunning example can be seen in the artistic creation of Bob Walker and Frances Mooney, whose labor of love for their kitties earned them a special spot on Animal Planet.

Red-Handed Otter
Had a busy summer? You know what they say about all work and no play! But don't worry, we've got just the ticket! Tickets to a new play! "Red-Handed Otter," is a quirky comedy from playwright Ethan Lipton and directed by Mike Donahue.
Not long ago, Paul had a girlfriend, a cat, and few complaints. Now? Well, at least he's got his health. In between shifts at their security guard post, Paul's work buddies try to cheer him up. But you know what they say about good intentions! Paul's friends' awkward (and hilarious) attempts to console him prove that some comforts only come on four legs. So end your busy summer with a light heart and an evening full of laughter. Performances run September 12 - October 6 at Cherry Lane Studio, 38 Commerce Street, New York, NY. Tickets are just $25 (20% off regular price) for supporters of The Pet Maven. Please use the code: RHOPET. Tickets can be purchased online. |

Featured Pets: Katie, Pierre, and Aleijadinho - Ana Luiza and Jay
Ana Luiza's and Jay's love of kitties spans two continents. Katie and Pierre are their NYC kitties, while Aleijadinho lives in Brazil. Katie is an adorable polydactyl cat. She is very intelligent and very communicative. She loves playing with her balls. Pierre is very friendly and very affectionate. He sometimes gets crazy around the apartment, and he loves to snuggle! Katie and Pierre are not siblings but they look alike; both are yellow tabbies. Aleijadinho, is a handsome boy who lives in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He was born with front paws that curve to the inside, but it doesn't slow him down! He walks using his front elbows. Ana Luiza says she misses Aleijadinho, who stays with her sister in Brazil. But when she travels to Brazil, she misses Katie and Pierre!
