Greetings!
May is here! Grab a ribbon and dance around the May-Pole: we've got a lot of ribbons, lots of fun and lots of links to follow!
First, let's travel to France to meet Henri, le Chat Noir! OK, he doesn't really live in France, but he does have his own online video series, a Facebook page, and soon a line of merchandise. Check him out; he's très magnifique!
We've also got grooming on the brain! Are your critters shedding up a storm? Helen has tips to help maintain your dog's coat. And, if you're a curious cat sitting client who's been considering a home grooming, we've got a great new video that shows the whole process, and the amazing results.
Finally, we have a flurry of featured pets! Just look at those sweet faces, and enjoy their stories! In particular, don't miss Allister's very special film debut, in which he confesses his new found love of vests.

Henri, le Chat Noir
If you find lolcats a little jejune, perhaps you should meet Henri, le Chat Noir. Or perhaps you shouldn't. He won't care, either way. Henri is an existential cat with his own series of videos created by owner William Braden; although Henri would ask: can anyone really own anything? When this factitious feline isn't nibbling kibble and sighing over the meaninglessness of existence, he is casting a scornful eye on the inauthenticity of humanity and all its trappings. We would try to tell you how delightful Henri's videos are, but, as Henri astutely observes on his Facebook page: the newspaper will not convey information when sat upon. Watch, and experience for yourself: Henri and Henri 2, Paw de Deux

Let The Fur NOT Fly: Grooming Guidelines Keep Shedding in Check
Loyal Pet Maven clients know: Helen's a great groomer. She's also got some great ideas about how to keep your dog's coat in shape in between grooms! She's shared these tips in a new online article: Minimize the Shedding: Essential Springtime Dog Grooming Tips! For example, regular brushing and good nutrition are key in maintaining a beautiful coat. Not only will your long-haired pooch feel happier and more comfortable in between professional grooms, the connection that is built during the regular, close interaction that brushing and bathing provides is incredible. According to Helen, "your dog will love all of the one-on-one attention, making it a wonderful bonding experience for both of you." |
Coming Soon: Ca-jamma Purr-ty!

Featured Pets: Allister & MJ -- owned by Becca and Matt
Allister (top left) and MJ (bottom left) are best friends. They live in Williamsburg with their humans Becca and Matt.
Becca adopted Allister from a shelter in 2006 when he was about 2 years old. He enjoys playing fetch with pom poms, snacking, snuggling and wearing vests.

May is Allister's favorite month of the year because The Pet Maven comes to trim his coat, making him cool and comfy during the summer months.
In 2009, Becca and Matt found MJ: a feral eight week old stray. After her capture, she quickly adjusted to the comforts of indoor life and became Allister's companion.
She loves playing with toys that make noise - bells in particular. She makes high pitched chirping sounds like a fax machine, which has earned her the nickname: 'Telephone Cat.'
Allister teaches MJ how to snuggle, and MJ, in return, keeps Allister on a playful work out schedule. |
Featured Pets: Mack, Dublin & Harley -- owned by Katie & Thomas
Katie and Thomas wanted a big dog: instead, they wound up with three pint-sized pooches! It was Max who started it all; they had gone to the North Shore Animal league looking for a larger model, but Max's larger-than-life personality won them over. He was an 8 year old long hair chihuahua. He was from a puppy mill and very skittish, but it was love at first sight for all three!
Sadly, 2 months later, Max got spooked on a walk. He escaped his harness and was struck by a cab. He was killed instantly. Katie and Thomas were devastated, and they couldn't imagine being able to adopt another dog again.
But the little dog love could not be denied. In July, they found Mack, another long haired chi chi. Just four months later, they adopted Dublin, a 2 year old chi chi, terrier mix who is a bit shy but full of love and a love of naps! Most recently, Katie and Thomas decided to foster a 7 year old puppy-mill rescue named Harley. The poor little guy had a lot of issues, and they soon decided the best place for him to be was pup number three in their little family!
Katie and Thomas say all three dogs have brought so much love to their home, and they are so grateful for each one of them.
