Happy Spring!

bio pic 2This is by far my favorite time of year, for two reasons; my birthday and in Chinese medicine I am a Wood dominant element, which relates to spring.
For those of you who don't know, I started out studying acupuncture and Chinese medicine before I got into anything related to fitness or muscle therapy.
On that note, I have a gift for you. I have finally organized my thoughts together on cleansing and how to put together an entire program for the year that flows with each of the seasons and relates them to Chinese medicine.

If you would like to learn how I stay so healthy, no matter how many people around me are sick, or how I never miss any work due to illness, then you will be interested in my latest posts!
They are all on cleansing, which I consider the secret to my health and everyone else's.

The articles are in three parts, start with this one called;

Then move on to the ones below in order. The blogs will lead you in the right direction.

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE BIRTHDAY WISHES!!!

Earth Transition Cleanse

Earth's energy is the focus used at the beginning of each seasonal cleanse because it is thought to be the transition phase between each season, rather than its own season. It is the energy that nurtures and supports all other seasons. This is a time in nature where the most energy often occurs, as transitions require a complete shift in the direction of energy and growth. For this reason, I include it as a pre-cleanse in order to get the body prepared mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically.

Spring Cleanse

Spring is a time for leaving the stillness of winter while promoting new life, creativity, dreams, goal setting, planning, cleansing, assertiveness, and many other attributes associated with the Wood element and spring energy. If you are experienced at cleansing, this is often the best time to do your biggest cleanse of the year, you know, "spring cleaning."

 Recipe of the Month

Fish Stock

 Fish Stock

Ingredients:

1 lb fish heads and bones, rinsed well

½ c dry white wine

8 c water

3 celery stalks, roughly chopped

1 carrot, chopped

1 onion, chopped

2 bay leaves

6 parsley stems

1 bulb garlic, cut in half

Salt and pepper

Directions:

Place the fish parts, white wine and veggies in a large stock pot or saucepan.

Add the water, cover the pot and slowly bring the water to a boil. Slowly simmering the mixture is the best way to extract the nutrients from the fish and veggies.

Reduce the temperature to medium heat and uncover the pot once the stock has begun to boil.

Simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. Use a spoon to continuously skim off the foam (or scum) that will rise to the top.

Add six parsley stems and two bay leaves to the stock pot when there is no more scum rising to the top. Add salt and pepper to your preferred taste.

Continue to simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes.

Remove the pot from the burner and allow it to cool just enough that you can use oven mitts to pick up the stock pot.

Place a strainer or colander over the mouth of a large bowl.

Pour the fish stock through the strainer, using a spoon to press on the solid pieces at the bottom of the strainer.

Let the mixture sit in the bowl for 10 minutes so that any impurities can settle to the bottom. Transfer the stock to a jar for storage.
