SOAR Beautification Walks, August 6 & 8
| | Please join us for SOAR's annual Beautification Awards Walk to identify properties in Streeterville that have provided landscaping that help beautify our neighborhood. There are four award categories: Residential, Institutional, Commercial and Public Space.
During the walks, you will identify properties for which the landscaping:
- contributes to the overall quality of life in Streeterville for residents, employees and tourists
- demonstrates creativity and interest for residents, employees and tourists
- enhances pedestrian experiences
- is well cared for and maintained
There are two opportunities to participate in the Beautification Walks:
- the North Streeterville walk will take place on Saturday, August 6th from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. starting at the SOAR office, 244 East Pearson St.
- the South Streeterville walk will take place on Monday, August 8th from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. starting at Streeterville Properties, 432 E. Grand Ave.
To participate, please RSVP, although "walk ins" are also welcome. Property nominations should be sent to greening@soarchicago.org no later than Friday, July 29, 2011. Anyone can nominate a property, but keep in mind that properties along Michigan Avenue are not eligible for this award as they are part of the Greater North Michigan Avenue (GNMAA) award program.

The Museum of Private Art Collections located at the River East Art Center (447 E. Illinois St.) invites SOAR members to the Umbrellas for Peace Benefit this Friday, July 15 5:30 - 7:30 pm. View Invitation.
Lookingglass Theatre, SOAR Cultural Member & winner of the 2011 Tony for Outstanding Regional Theatre, has extended the run of their current production, entitled The Last Act of Lilka Kadison, through August 7th. SOAR members are invited to use this discount offer to come see this world premiere & a prime example of what Lookingglass does best.
SOAR & the Streeterville Chamber are participating in the Chicago Office of Tourism & Culture's Summer 2011: Get Up & Go! program on July 26th at 77 E. Randolph at 12:15 pm. Learn More.
Returning to Navy Pier for its 6th smash season, Cirque Shanghai Extreme is thrilling audiences with a brand new show filled with spectacular stagecraft, and astonishing acrobatics, choreographed to a new musical score. Rain or shine, on the Pepsi Skyline Stage, now thru September 5.

Skyline Village Chicago

Over the past two years folks from Streeterville, Gold Coast, the New East Side have been meeting to explore new ways to bring people together to make this wonderful neighborhood even more friendly and inviting. Toward that end Skyline Village Chicago (SVC) was incorporated.
 SVC's goal is to help people to "age in place", to live independently in this neighborhood, and to create a community that will move them toward this goal. To assist in this effort they are asking SOAR members to take a few minutes to answer a survey. Your answers will help them understand how to make this happen.

Get Involved!
There are many ways to become active and engaged in SOAR's efforts in Streeterville. Volunteers can contribute through one-time efforts, work on special events or projects, assist in the office, or participate on an ongoing basis with SOAR's task forces and committees. Streeterville residents 18 years or older are invited and encouraged to get involved. For specific volunteer opportunities, please visit SOAR's website.
