Greetings!
Pridefest was truly amazing this year. I was so thrilled to see so many people out together and genuinely happy. There were families & kids, groups of youth, couples and friends of all ages. The beautiful Boulder Central Park hosted our 9th Annual Pridefest, as our community gathered to celebrate its diversity & its pride.
On this lovely Sunday we enjoyed music that feels uniquely fitting to Boulder, from Hannah & Maggie to Hey Lady! there was something for everyone in this years entertainment lineup. And it didn't stop there... We had airbrush tattoos, face painting, henna tattoos, body massages & yoga in the park. These services and more made our pride experience all the more enjoyable. Our beer and wine garden set the mood around the band shell and our nearly 90 vendors showed off how unique the GLBTQ community is in Boulder. We had everything from independent films & local publications to national & congressional candidates. We were proud to have them all there.
New to Boulder Pride this year was the first annual Pridefest Dyke March. Women who love women, gay, and straight allies all came together and marched in unity around Boulder Central Park. We formed our own mini parade, and were escorted by the motorcycle club the Colorado Hookers. Participants of the march said they felt empowered after for having marched together. It was a really special experience for me to create and participate in our first annual Dyke March and be a part of a long tradition within our community.
All in all this was a beautiful day, filled with incredible people, and we will forever have great memories from it. We're already excited for next year and can't wait to celebrate pride big in Boulder to celebrate our 10 years anniversary. Thank you to all who came, supported, vended, volunteered, preformed and participated, we love sharing this experience with you.
With great pride,
<3 Aubree Peckham

Outwrite: A Queer Writer's Workshop - Starting October 3
|
|---|
Beginning Oct. 3rd and meeting Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30pm until Nov. 28th at the Naropa University Student Center, join us for a workshop for GLBT writers and allies to write with purpose and community. Writing exercises free us to think of our work in different ways and gain feedback from our peers. The workshop will be discussing work from contemporary queer poets/authors such as CA Conrad, Akilah Oliver, Margaret Randall, Stephen Motika, and Andrea Gibson.
We would also explore prose writers like Kathy Acker or Chuck Palahniuk. Community is created by bringing in works by poets/authors we enjoy and group involvement in contemplative writing exercises. This will also provide the opportunity to share our own work with peers for collaborative feedback. You are encouraged to produce work of any type or genre as relates your own manifestation of expression. Sometimes our work is political. Sometimes it is romantic, descriptive, personal, or about a concept that we find interesting. We can use our writing to express everything from the complexity of trauma to the simplicity of appreciating life that occurs around us. This workshop is a safe place to discuss and work with any of these modalities in the context of our artistic work, in a collaborative and queer-identified space. More info.
