Countdown: 4 Days Til Pride!

Hi lovely community,

Last week on Facebook we asked what you are most excited about for Boulder Pride? Here were some of your responses:

"The talent on the stage and the MC, sharing laughs with friends old and new

"Helping to host the Naropa tent and being with the community!

"Meeting some new people and feeling the strength and love of the Boulder community

"Spending the day with Atlas peeps promoting HIV awareness, prevention, and testing

"Yoga in the park! Woohoo! (and being Out and Fancy with my partner!)"

"Seeing all kinds of people coming together celebrating each other

And here are some MORE reasons to be excited!
Pridefest Boulder Hey, Lady

Hope to see you all there!

Cheers,
Jen Spolnik, Out Boulder

Auditions for 8 the Play - Sept 28-29

Out Boulder and guest director Colleen Mylott are thrilled to announce auditions for a staged reading of "8," a play chronicling the historic trial in the federal constitutional challenge to California's Proposition 8, written by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (Milk & J. Edgar).

8 the play

We are casting 21 roles and looking for passionate actors, students and community members of various ages and genders to participate in this exclusive staged reading event being held in Boulder on Friday December 6th at 7PM.

Rehearsals will take place periodically between mid-October through December (approx. 8 total).  Proceeds from the event will benefit American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER) and their ongoing fight to secure full federal marriage equality.

AUDITIONS WILL BE HELD: Fri. Sept. 28, 3-6pm and Sat. Sept., 29 1-4pm. All are welcome to audition. No advanced preparation required. Auditions will be cold reads from the script in 30 minute time slots.

AUDITION LOCATION: Auditions will be held in Lincoln Studio at Naropa University's Main Campus, 2130 Arapahoe Avenue, Boulder, CO 80302 (Lincoln Studio is in the same building as the Performing Arts Center - just look for signs)

Click HERE to sign up for a 30 minute audition slot.

If you have any questions, feel free to email Colleen Mylott at:  cmylott@gmail.com

Boulder Trans SOFFA Group - Alternate Fridays

First meeting: September 21!

The Boulder Trans* SOFFA group provides a safe & supportive space for Significant Others, Family, Friends, and Allies of those who are trans* or genderqueer.  It is an opportunity for us to come together as a community and to provide support for each other.  Our hope is that you will find the emotional support, insight, or information that you are seeking while mutually providing validation and support for your feelings.

Please join us if you want support in your experience, want to hear from others about their experience, or just spend time in a group of people who may understand where you're at.

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT:  CU Office of Victim Assistance (OVA)

The Office of Victim Assistance (OVA) works towards a safer, more socially just and supportive campus community by providing culturally relevant trauma response and prevention services. The office is a free and confidential counseling and advocacy center for the CU Boulder community.

OVA Office of Victim Assistance CU Out Boulder

Not everyone who comes to our office needs to be or think of themselves as a victim. OVA supports people who may be impacted by grief and loss, physical assault, hazing, sexual harassment, intimate partner abuse, serious accidents, disasters, sexual assault, stalking, discrimination and harassment, bias motivated incidents, as well as other potentially traumatic situations. We want to highlight that experiencing bias, in general, can take a toll on ones day to day life. Incidents of bias can take many different forms and the impact can vary. Regardless of the form, if you feel that you have experienced bias OVA can be a resource for you.

Please check out our website at for more information.

Call 303-492-8855 or email OVA at assist@colorado.edu for questions or appointments. We welcome walk-ins and are located on the Boulder campus, in the Center for Community (C4C) room S440.

Thank you,
Office of Victim Assistance Staff:
Jessica Ladd-Webert, LPC

Ruchi Malhotra, LPC

Sarah Williams, LSW

Don Your Dancin' Shoes, It's Dancin' Divas this Friday the 14th!

Dancin Divas
Now that the days are "almost" getting cooler, and everyone's "just about" back from their summer plans, I'm thinking... what's not to celebrate?  Ladies, let's dance!  Hence, the perfect timing of the Dancin' Divas Mid-September-Come-One-Come-All Boot Scoot & End-of-Summer Dance Event; call it 2nd Friday if you like. Susie will review Baby Likes to Rock It and Cowboy Cha Cha by popular demand, and DJ Baby Ruth is back with her very special spin on our evening.  Doors open at 6:30 pm, with Susie's Beginner Two-Step Review at 6:45 pm, directly followed by the evening's Line Dance lessons at 7:15 pm. You pretty much won't want to miss anything, so unless you're dropping down from Fort Collins or driving up from the Springs (yes, some divas do this every month), don't be late! It's gonna be a lot of fun to see everybody, huh?

There isn't a one of you that doesn't make our Dancin' Divas community extra great. So, naturally, we always hope to see you there.  And thanks.

Light refreshments provided.  (Its OK to BYO.)  $10 at the door - or volunteer for 1/2 hr and get in free!    Avalon Dance Hall in Boulder - the biggest and best dance hall in Colorado!  over 4000 sq. ft. dance floor, and always a welcoming, safe environment.  Doors open at 6:30 pm, optional lessons start at 6:45 pm. GLBTQ community and friend of - all welcome!

Win tickets to the Bolder Life Film Festival!

- Sept 19-23

Bolder Life Film Fest

Just a few days after Boulder Pride, come join us at BolderLife! This arts/film/education festival takes place in North Boulder September 19-23. Our festival topics and settings empower our community to question paradigms and explore new ways of thinking, communicating....and living.  Of particular interest may be LGBT-themed films such as Tomboy and Gun Hill Road (introduced by Rose Garcia of "The Real L Word"), but that's just the tip of the iceberg.  Check out everything at www.bolderlifefestival.com and enter this contest to win one of two VIP festival passes!!!
