Introducing our new Events & Office Manager, Aubree!

Hello friends!

Aubree Peckham Out Boulder LGBT My name is Aubree Peckham, I recently joined the Out Boulder family as the Events and Office Manager. I look forward to contributing to the stellar reputation Out Boulder has built supporting and celebrating LGBTQ people. I have had a long time passion for social justice and equality; this truly is a dream job for me. I can't wait to meet more of our community partners, supporters and family. I welcome you to start a dialogue with me, share a favorite memory or simply make an introduction. Come out to the Pride House and say hello sometime. If we don't cross paths sooner, I look forward to sharing your company at Boulder Pridefest on Sunday, September 16th.

With great pride,

Aubree Peckham

Light Your Fire: An Interaction Designed to Spark Your Creative Flow

In 1995, Julie Colwell attended her first training with Gay and Kathlyn Hendricks. Her life was forever changed by such strange activities as breathing, moving, and telling the microscopic truth. She gathered her friends around to teach them these new ways, and created instant suspicion and resistance.

During her second training, she learned about setting intentions, and came back to Boulder with the intention of "creating conscious community." As these were the dark days of Amendment Two,* she focused her attention on bringing the work of consciousness to the LGBT community.

In 2005, it became clear to her that it was time to be inclusive of the whole community, and the Boulder Center for Conscious Living was formed as a for-profit with intrepid partners Kathy Kucsan and Mary Heart. We opened the current space and also created the non-profit Big Life Foundation.

Offerings include THE BASICS every other Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. one hour before Intensive Learning Community (ILC) every week at the Boulder Center. Attended by ILC members and instructors, we explore the details of a different skill every week. This is a great way to try on and learn the tenets of living with creativity and integrity. Other upcoming  events from BC3.

*The residents of Colorado voted to legalize discrimination of gays and lesbians.

Take Part in "Protected and Served?: Survey of LGBT/HIV Contact with Polics, Courts & Prisons"

Protected and served survey The Colorado Anti-Violence Program (CAVP) is participating in Lambda Legal's survey campaign, "Protected and Served?: Survey of LGBT/HIV Contact with Police, Courts & Prisons" to document the experiences that LGBT people, and people living with HIV face when dealing with police, school security, courts and the prison system.  Respondents are encouraged to share their stories -- good and bad.

Click here to complete the survey*

According to the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Program's report Hate Violence Against LGBTQ and HIV-Affected Communities in the United States in 2011, police comprised 9% of hate violence offenders. Hate violence from law enforcement can include refusal to take a complaint, harassment, discrimination, profiling, unjustified arrest, physical assault, entrapment, and sexual violence. According to the report, people of color under age 30 were 2.06 times as likely to experience police violence.

LGBTQ survivors of violence as well as other residents of Colorado who are survivors of anti-LGBTQ violence, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity should know that there is assistance available. CAVP operates a statewide, confidential, 24-hour hotline that can be reached by calling 303-852-5094 or toll free at 1-888-557-4441.

*Trigger warning: there are questions about personal experiences of violence.
