PRIDE LINKS US TOGETHER

Dear Friends,

Every year, Boulder Pridefest gives us the opportunity to come together to acknowledge and celebrate the differences that give our community its strength. We work hard to ensure that as many people can participate in the event and we do our best to propose dates for the event that allow for this, however there are times that when no matter how inclusive, aware and nurturing we aim to be in selecting our date we are simply limited by availability.
 Boulder Pride 2012

All of us working on planning the 2012 Boulder Pridefest are truly saddened that our date for this years festivities coincide with the beginning of the Festival of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish community celebration of the New Year, which begins at dusk on Sunday, September 16th.

We wish to extend a special invitation to all of you that are of the Jewish Faith to consider initiating your celebration with us, and allow us to mark and share in the beginning of a new year together, prior to dusk. A new year of celebrating and cultivating the beauty of diversity that makes Boulder County a truly special place to live.

We will continue to work with the City of Boulder to ensure that Pridefest days are inclusive and aware of other community celebrations. We appreciate your understanding when circumstances are simply beyond our ability to control. We welcome all of your thoughts and concerns around this sensitive issue, please click here to send them to us.

We look forward to seeing many of you during Pridefest Hours, 11AM to 7PM, on Sunday, September 16th in Boulder's Central Park. (Broadway and Canyon)

Program Director

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT:
Atlas & HIV Testing Day - June 30

HIV Altas Boulder
Atlas is an HIV prevention program of Boulder County AIDS Project (BCAP) working to decrease HIV infection among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men. Atlas is supported by a diverse group of volunteers who are active in our community and active in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Atlas program volunteers participate in a service learning program which is designed to connect each volunteer to the HIV epidemic through a meaningful, supportive, and active process, including: outreach events, presentations, workshops, HIV testing and counseling, peer-to-peer support, and distribution of risk reduction materials.

On Saturday, June 30 Atlas volunteers will help with the 7th annual National HIV Testing Day event hosted by BCAP and Boulder County Public Health (BCPH). Free, anonymous, and rapid HIV testing will be provided from 11am-7pm at the BCAP house, located at 2118 14th Street in Boulder. No appointment is needed. This annual event is a time where BCAP, BCPH, and community volunteers join together in the fight against the HIV epidemic by acknowledging the importance of HIV prevention efforts and the value of knowing one's HIV status. Each year over 100 volunteers assist with event outreach and testing, making it possible for 150-200 people receive free HIV testing during this event.

Or, for additional questions about BCAP, Atlas, or National HIV Testing Day, you may call at 303-444-6121 and ask for the Prevention Department.

Hey, Lady! is our Headliner at Boulder Pride!

Hey Lady Boulder Pride B-52's
We are excited to announce Hey, Lady! who will be our headliner at Boulder Pridefest, September 16 in Boulder Central Park. Hey, Lady! is the World's Second Greatest Party band and a tribute to the B-52s. Hey, Lady! was founded in 2009 by sister/brother duo Deb Britton and Steven Blasinsky with the mission to spread the love, the fun and the wacky party spirit of the B-52s across Colorado and beyond!

This is not your average background-music cover band. Hey, Lady! is an EVENT BAND; captivating and entertaining audiences of all ages with their passion and energy. Their concert-style shows provide special effects, outrageous wigs and costumes, spunk and contagious B-52's dance grooves that will take your special event to the ultimate level of celebration.

We will have other entertainment which we are recruiting on July 28 at our Boulder's Got Talent Auditions. If you are a musician, comedian, or entertainer, contact Rose to be added to the lineup!

Trans and Genderqueer Support  - Wednesdays

The two Trans and Genderqueer Groups at the Pridehouse have merged and will continue to meet weekly.  Boulder Trans and Genderqueer Support (BTGS) offers support group meetings and social fun for people of all ages who identify as transgender and/or identify anywhere within the gender variant spectrum/sphere/torus. Our support meetings emphasize respect for peoples' experience in all types of gender variant identities, including genderqueer, third gender, trans women, trans men, trans masculine/feminine, bi-gender, genderfluid, intersex, and of course anyone questioning/deciphering their gender identity. For the safety and comfort of our group members, our meetings are not currently open to SOFFAs (significant others, family, family, friends or allies of trans and genderqueer folks). The group is consciously welcoming to gender variant people of color and persons with disabilities and we strive to build and maintain an anti-oppressive, inclusive group culture. Please come if you want support in your experience, you want to hear from others about their experience, or maybe you just want to spend time in a group of people that is accepting of you as you are.

We meet every Wednesday evening from 7 - 9pm at the Pridehouse (Out Boulder), 2132 14th Street. The meetings are facilitated by peers, and everyone will be given an opportunity to share so that no one person dominates the discussion. There is a non-gendered bathroom at Out Boulder, which you can use to change your clothes upon arrival if you would like. Also feel free to bring any clothing that you would like to get rid of due to transition - it might be perfect for someone else who is in need of clothing.

For more information, see our group agreements and guidelines. If you have further questions or need accommodations to attend, please contact Li Brookens by email, librookens11@gmail.com , or by phone, (720) 663-0163.

LGBT Uganda Book Drive for Sexual Minorities - NOW through August 1

Donate books on LGBT subjects, and make a difference in the lives of people in Uganda!

Uganda is one of the most difficult countries for LGBT people, lagging behind the rest of the world in cultural acceptance of

differences in sexual orientation and gender identity. The government has been imposing oppressive and inhumane laws that discriminate against Uganda's LGBT citizens, often putting them in grave danger. A sobering reminder to LGBT people worldwide, the Infamous "Kill The Gays" bill is, incredibly, still being debated in Uganda's parliament.

In the face of immense challenges, Sexual Minorities Uganda Group (SMUG) has been bravely fighting for the rights of Uganda's LGBT population.  Through advocacy and lobbying work, coordinating the efforts of diverse organizations, education programs and much much more, SMUG is making a difference and you too can help, all the way from Boulder County.

Please join us in a book drive to populate SMUG's library by donating your used books on LGBT subjects.  Drop off books at the PrideHouse during working hours,
or on the back porch, or at Dave Ensign's home at 4020 Evans Drive (box on front porch).  Your books can go
from gathering dust to making a huge difference in the lives of Ugandans on the front lines of the battle for acceptance. More info
