Dear Friend,

Please share: Do a favor for your friends and neighbors who purchased a home or turned 65 since Jan 1, 2010; print and give this to them as a reminder!

YES, it is that time of year again! All property owners should have received their property tax statements in November 2010. These are mailed to the owners of record as of January 1, 2010. So, if you purchased property during the year, you may have to track down the tax statement for your property.  Click here to view Property Taxes on-line. Click here to pay Property Taxes    TAXES must be paid by Feb 1, 2011 to avoid delinquent fees, etc. ***ALSO, BE SURE TO CHECK TO SEE THAT YOU HAVE FILED FOR HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION!!*** see article
If you have questions about the amount of property taxes, they should be addressed to the Madison County TAX ASSESSOR OFFICE

Are you paying to much tax? Have you filed for "homestead" exemption? Or, Over-65?
We have a number of new property owners this year, and I want to remind you to file for Homestead Exemption.  January 1 through April 1, 2011 is the timeframe to file Homestead Exemption application. This can be filed in Canton at the Admin Complex or in Ridgeland at the County Annex on Hwy 51, (601) 856-1796.   Click to access Homestead Exemption "worksheet."  Also, click here for homestead exemption requirements and filing information.

Also, I want to remind those property owners who turned 65 during the year to go by the Tax Collectors Office and file for your over 65 special tax exemption... It is definitely worthwhile to take a moment to do this and all you need to take with you is your drivers license. It is painless!  Also, if you are 100% disabled VET let the Tax Assessor know!

During the last year I've discovered that we have many existing property owners who have never applied for HOMESTEAD exemption and are paying 50% more taxes than necessary. So, please ensure that you have applied. You can check the on-line land records.
