Madison County related news:
  • Madison County Tax Rolls were available for examination and inspection from July 6 through August 2, 2010. You may still review the tax roll info here http://tinyurl.com/2cpdfz7
  • HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION -- scores of Madison County property owners have not filed for Homestead Exemption on their homes... some living in the homes for 11 or more years have individually lost out on more than $30,000 by paying higher property taxes at NO Homestead rates!  One major Madison County subdivision had 14 home owners who had not filed.  Please help check and spread the word to ensure that all property owners are aware of Homestead Exemption. Even though they cannot apply for Homestead until Jan - March 2011, they can still request to be put on the 10% list; thereby greatly reducing their 2010 property tax liability. These bills will be mailed in November 2010. The impact of Homestead Exemption, Special Homestead and without Homestead can be easily viewed using the Tax Calculator spreadsheet at http://tinyurl.com/taxcal
  • UPDATE: Bilberry(NCL) Landfill -- July 19
    • DEQ is still conducting the technical review of the permit application.  See article at http://tinyurl.com/25nbera
    • NCL Landfill COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT SESSION -- DEQ hosted a public meeting with citizens of Madison and Hinds Counties, Thursday, Jun 17, 2010, that was attended by nearly 200 citizens. Many took the opportunity to provide insights as to the impact of the proposed landfill project. Citizens are still encouraged to provide written comments to DEQ. See http://tinyurl.com/NCLLandfill
    • County Line Road Disposal Sites
    • Existing and proposed solid waste sites located on North County Line Road
    • Appeal to Mississippi Supreme Court.  The Hinds County Board of Supervisors has appealed the decision of the Mississippi Environmental Commission approving the Madison County Solid Waste Plan to the Mississippi Supreme Court.
    • DEQ continues to review the permit application; PUBLIC HEARING planned for July/August timeframe.
    • DEQ encourages citizens to provide input... send Letters, Email, or faxes of Support or Opposition to the proposed landfill can be sent:
