Veterans Day 2009:
Veterans Day is a particularly moving national
holiday as we honor and remember the courageous men and women who have fought
and continue to fight for our nation.
This year is
especially poignant as we remember those who have been killed in combat and in
the most recent tragedy at Ft. Hood. We extend our condolences to their families
and loved ones, and we wish healing and recovery for our wounded
warriors.
Sunday, I had the honor of being the keynote speaker at Phillipston Baptist Church, Leflore County, for the dedication of their beautiful Veterans Monument... below is a short extract of my speech...
ORDINARY PEOPLE ACCOMPLISHING
EXTRAORDINARY THINGS. SIMPLY PUT, THAT'S WHO VETERANS ARE.
YOUNG AND OLD - RICH AND POOR -
BLACK AND WHITE - AND NEARLY EVERY CATEGORY IN BETWEEN, THEY ARE MEN AND WOMEN
WHO SERVED OR STILL SERVE AMERICA.
SOME HAVE ENDURED GREAT HARDSHIPS,
SEPARATION FROM FAMILY AND DRASTICALLY ALTERED LIFESTYLES. SOME HAVE
EXPERIENCED THE HORRORS OF WAR. ALL SACRIFICED SOMETHING SO THAT WE COULD ENJOY
THE FREEDOMS WE HAVE TODAY.
AS GENERAL DOUGLAS MACARTHER OFTEN
SAID... "THE SOLDIER WHO IS CALLED UPON TO
OFFER HIS LIFE FOR HIS COUNTRY IS THE NOBELEST DEVELOPMENT OF MANKIND!!
