BOND TO SUCCEED!

I hope you and your family are doing well and you have had a great weekend!

Tuesday, voters who live in the Madison County School District will go the polls and participate in deciding the future of Madison County public schools, our property values, and the lives of literally thousands of children! This bond issue is critically important to all and should not be taken lightly since it must pass by 60% of the voters.

To achieve success. a HUGE LANDSLIDE "YES!" vote is required; a 60% margin of victory is absolutely HUGE! So, everyone is encouraged to take the time to carry out your critically important civic responsibility of voting! The polling precincts are the same as used for all County and State elections and where you voted for President last November!

Answers to Questions by Supt. Mike Kent:

Number of students, State Athletic Class, and impact of Rosa Scott numbers?

Gluckstadt high school will open with approximately 6oo students the first year. I use approximately because I know the Board will allow seniors to have choice on whether they attend Gluckstadt or stay at Madison Central.  The actual number the first year could be anywhere from slightly less than 600 to almost 800 depending on how many seniors choose to go.  My guess is that they will open a little over 600 and be classified as a large 4A school.  They should be competitive immediately.  Remember, Ridgeland H.S. won 2 State Championships their first year and had 125 in the marching band.

I also suspect that there will be some underclassmen, grades 9-11, who do not want to transfer, just as experienced in 2002 with RHS.

Rosa Scott student numbers have to be included because the Gluckstadt 9th graders at Rosa will be reassigned to Gluckstadt HS which is 9-12.

One other thing, Madison Central is 6A.  Their big rival is Clinton.
Ridgeland HS is 5A.  Their rivalry is with Pearl.
Athletically Gluckstadt will start as a  4A and move to 5A shortly thereafter.

Secondary reasons for Gluckstadt High School:

One of the secondary reasons to open a new high school is to create opportunities for children to participate.  Madison Central had to cut almost 90 kids who wanted play baseball last spring.  They have over 100 out for varsity football [jersey numbers only go to 99]  There are 31 cheerleaders and a 100 more that want to be a cheerleader.  They march over 200 in band and have 40 more  who "help"  because the directors say they don't know how to manage a half time show bigger than any university in the state.

This is not about competing with Madison or Ridgeland, this is about creating an opportunity for children to thrive, to be one of 800 rather than a "face in a mob of 2000".

This District is committed to all of its kids, regardless of location.  Gluckstadt HS will be fine and its students will be proud.
