I hope you and your family are doing well and enjoying a fun and safe Labor Day weekend... and, the first weekend of College Football! I want to share with you the PROPOSED FY 2010 BUDGET and remind you of Tuesday's PUBLIC HEARING to discuss the budget and associated Tax Levy.

My goodness the time has flown since this time last year when more than 7,000 Madison County tax payers protested the "bait and switch" tax increase from the announced 3.33 mil increase which was increased to 6.33 mils after the PUBLIC HEARING was closed!!! I sure hope there will be none of these shenanigans on Tuesday morning.

Please review the PROPOSED FY 2010 BUDGET and be informed on how your tax dollars are used, and attend the PUBLIC HEARING if possible.

Nearly everyone has expressed outrage over the last year as to how Madison County tax revenues are being used.
MADISON COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI
NOTICE OF BUDGET HEARING AND TAX LEVY HEARING
The Madison County Board of Supervisors will hold public hearings on a proposed budget and tax levy for fiscal year 2010 on Tuesday, September 8, 2009. The Board of Supervisors anticipates no increase in ad valorem taxes for the fiscal year 2009-10.

The Madison County Board of Supervisors is now operating with projected total budget revenue of $71,392,680. Forty four percent or $31,556,839 of such revenue is obtained through ad valorem taxes. For next fiscal year, the proposed budget has total projected revenue of $68,934,885. Of that amount, 47% or 32,390,159 is proposed to be financed through a total ad valorem tax levy.

A millage rate of 51.03 will produce the same amount of revenue from ad valorem taxes for Madison County as was collected the prior year. The County's millage rate for the previous year was 53.24.

A millage rate of 51.86 will produce the same amount of revenue from ad valo.rem taxes for the Madison County School District as was collected the prior year. The District's millage rate for the previous year was 54.55.

All concerned citizens are invited to attend public hearings on the Madison County proposed budget and tax levy to be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. in the Board of Supervisors Board Room in the Madison County Office Complex Building, 125 West North Street, Canton, Madison County, Mississippi. Any citizen will be allowed to speak for a reasonable amount of time and offer tangible evidence before any vote is taken.
