Farewell to the St. Anastasia Eighth Grade Class!
This is the last week we will have our eighth graders on campus with us! We will honor our graduating eighth graders at a Farewell Mass on Thursday, May 20 at 9 a.m. at St.
Anastasia Catholic Church. Graduation is set for Friday, May 21 at 7 p.m. also
at the church. Also on Thursday morning, the eighth grade class will partake in the time-honored tradition of ringing the historic bell on the east side of campus. Each student will take a turn ringing the bell that has been around for nearly 100 years. The bell was given to St. Anastasia Catholic Church in 1924 by Dr. Hoeffner's great-grandfather, Anton P. Hoeffner. It resided in a
large bell tower attached to the church and was likely rung to announce the
beginning of services. When the
school moved in 1960, the bell was placed at the front of the school. The bell
was rung by the graduating class every year until the tradition ended during the 1980s. When Dr. Hoeffner returned to St. Anastasia four
years ago, he brought back the tradition and introduced a more formal ceremony. |
Student of the Day!
| St. Anastasia Catholic School Student of the Day Samantha Priest
_________________________________________
Congratulations to third-grader Samantha Priest as she is Student of Day on Friday, May 21! Samantha's mom, Karina, won the Student of the Day silent auction item at this year's Night for the Children Auction and Dinner Dance. With this honor, Samantha will receive: a free dress day on Friday, two free homework passes, free lunch for a week and this article all about SAMANTHA!
Samantha is in Mrs. O'Loughlin's class and her favorite subjects in school are playground and music. Her best friend is Casey Daigle. She said she is "kind of scared to go into 4th grade!"
Samantha and her family live in Port St. Lucie and they attend St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Samantha's parents are Karina and Joshua and she has one sister, Jesse, who is in Pre-K. Samantha has four pets: two cats named Sassy and Frisky and two dogs named Bruce and Bob. Bob is a Chihuahua, Lab, Terrier and Beagle mix and Bruce is a Great Dane and German Shepard mix. Samantha tells us that Bruce only has three legs!
Samantha's hobbies include dance, art and playing with her pets. Her favorite color is sapphire. She spends most of her free time practicing her dancing which includes ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop and musical theater. She plans to attend St. A's summer camp as well as dance camp this summer. Her cousins from Connecticut will be visiting her this summer and she is looking forward to their trip to the Rapids Water Park while they are here.
Congratulations to Samantha Priest, our Student of the Day for Friday, May 21!
