KidsArt Fair!
|
St. Anastasia Catholic Third-grader Natalia Bahamon displays her masterpiece for the KidsArt Fair. Natalia's artwork is a painting depicting the Cave Art of Lascaux, France made from tempera paint with oil pastels. | School Art Department and PTO is hosting our first ever KidsArt Fair event on Wednesday, April 14th from 7-9 p.m. at the Parish Center.
Students have been busy preparing their masterpieces during their art classes and the artwork will be displayed at the Art Fair for families
who wish to attend. Frame packages may be purchased for $29.95 (plus tax). Our
school receives a percentage of all sales to benefit our Art Department. For more information, visit www.kidsartfairs.com.
Please look for your invitation in this week's Thursday folder and send in your RSVP. By sending in your RSVP, parents are not committed to purchasing the artwork; you are just ensuring that your child's artwork will be on
display at the Art Fair when you arrive.
To learn more about the artwork your child is creating for this event, click here.
Eighth graders Rachel Guettler, Marian Oliva and Jennifer Samander show off their Haiti Houses. | A new addition to the KidsArt Fair is the sale of "Haiti Houses." Coordinated by Mrs. McWhorter and Ms. McCadden, the "Haiti Houses" are being made by students in grades 5-8, as well as students in Mrs. Miret's Advisory Group. Our school project is part of a larger program that began in 2008 by two art
teachers, Ann Ayers and Ellen McMillan, of Coconut Creek, Florida,
after they saw a presentation about the living conditions in Haiti. They
devised the project as a way for students to make a difference in the
lives of the people of Haiti. After the terrible earthquake in
January 2010, the project was re-introduced to the compassionate and
creative community via the Internet and hundreds of teachers, students,
scout groups, churches and individuals immediately embraced the project
and set to work creating "Haiti Houses" -- including St. Anastasia Catholic School. These beautiful magnets and pins will be available for purchase at the Art Fair with the proceeds benefiting the program Food for the Poor. Click here to learn about what this organization does to help with housing in Haiti.
Don't forget, the PTO will also host their annual Ice Cream Social during this event. So plan on stopping by the Art Fair and Ice Cream Social for free ice cream, fun and fantastic artwork!
