Yes... It's almost here! Only a few days until the 2012 UPAF Ride for the Arts, sponsored by Miller Lite. I am thrilled to be part of my first official Ride as a member of the UPAF team. Be sure to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and check the air in your tires to ensure a safe and healthy ride. Shelby Keefe's contemporary Impressionistic collection "16 Paintings in 16 Days" is a lasting testament to our region's dynamic performing arts scene. From June 6 to the 22, you can bid on Keefe's paintings in an online auction, hosted by Marcus Corporation.(Link will not be active with the painting auction until June 6.) Don't miss the opportunity to take home a tribute to Southeastern Wisconsin's performing arts Member Groups.

 

UPAF's social media campaign, I ♥ Art, is coming to a close June 26 - the day our 2012 Campaign Finale. UPAF's I Art Facebook album depicts our region's artistic flair and our community's abounding creativity. We encourage all arts enthusiasts to contribute their photographic interpretations of what they view as art to UPAF's Facebook page. We want to see your personal definition of art!

 

With the highly anticipated arrival of summer, UPAF's Member Groups offer educational children's programs that nurture and develop their passion for the performing arts. For example, First Stage, one of the nation's most acclaimed children's theaters, offers its Summer Theater Academy, which teaches life skills through stage skills. Swan Lake 

From the moment Tchaikovsky fell under its spell and set its magic to music, Swan Lake has been alluring audiences. Miguel Harth-Bedoya leads these all-Russian concerts, also featuring the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus in Prokofiev's thrilling showpiece, Alexander Nevsky. 

The Firebird
An enchanted tale that has delighted generations. The first masterpiece of a music genius. Experience Stravinsky's The Firebird. Plus, the orchestra's Todd Levy plays Aaron Copland's tender Clarinet concerto.

Sci-Fi Spectacular
George Takei, Sulu on the original Star Trek series and major motion pictures, narrates an out-of-this-world musical extravaganza. Take a trip among the stars with the MSO Pops, as the orchestra performs the music from your favorite science fiction films and TV shows, including Star Wars, Star Trek, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Classical Music Lovers: Milwaukee Has a Fest For You Too! 

 

Get caught up in the music and meet some astonishing young pianists, ages 15-20. PianoArts welcomes to Milwaukee 12 internationally acclaimed young pianists selected to compete in the PianoArts 2012 Competition at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts. Twelve semifinalists will compete in solo and duo recitals for the opportunity to perform a full concerto with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra June 13, and over $22,000 in awards and prizes.

Prelude Recital

Semifinal Solo Recitals

Shelby Keefe's "16 Paintings in 16 Days" Collection
Online Auction

About the Collection 

The collection "16 Paintings in 16 Days" by award-winning contemporary Impressionistic painter, Shelby Keefe, is now available to the public for purchase. During her time as The Pfister's artist in residence, Keefe painted 15 of UPAF's Member Groups and one painting depicting UPAF in 16 days. Each rendering is a 12" x 12" oil painting. You can view Keefe's UPAF-inspired collection at www.upaf.org.    

 

About the Artist 

Shelby's award-winning urban landscape paintings have earned her participation in prestigious national juried shows and arts festivals. She has also garnered commission work for a variety of corporate clients and private collectors. Her oil paintings are found in collections such as The Bradley Foundation, Acuity, Northwestern Mutual, Ozaukee Country Club, We Energies, University School of Milwaukee and private collections around the country.  

 

 

All proceeds from the sale of the paintings will benefit the 2012 UPAF Campaign.

 

You can bid for Keefe's paintings in an online auction, hosted by Marcus Corporation. The auction will be held  June 6 - 22. Don't miss out on the opportunity to own one of Keefe's performing arts-inspired paintings!
