United Performing Arts Fund News
The United Performing Arts Fund is really revved up this month and ready to go full throttle. For starters, we are excited to announce this year's goal at the 2012 Campaign Kickoff, on Wednesday, April 4, at the Harley-Davidson Museum's Garage. The Kickoff will feature performances by UPAF Member Groups and a special presentation from The Pfister's Artist in Residence, Shelby Keefe.
As Shelby's time with The Pfister comes to a close, we commend her for building a wonderful partnership with UPAF. Shelby's renditions of UPAF and its Member Groups are a lasting testament to the dynamic presence of the performing arts. Her 16 Paintings in 16 Days exhibit will travel to Waukesha County on May 21 to be displayed at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts. We invite you view this incredible collection and attend the Wilson Center's signature evening, The Big Event, on Saturday, June 2. For more information, please visit their website.
UPAF gives a standing ovation to Northwestern Mutual employees for their longstanding commitment to UPAF. The company's campaign, which ran last month, has raised more than $626,000 and achieved 66% employee participation! UPAF thanks Northwestern Mutual's employees for enhancing our city's vibrant arts scene through their amazing generosity.
We continue to appreciate and enjoy viewing how individuals throughout our region define art through UPAF's "I Heart Art" program. Our goal is to have 450 photos - 10 photos for every year UPAF has been in existence - by June 21. A montage of images will be presented at the UPAF Campaign Finale on June 26. Winners of the "I Heart Art" drawing for tickets to an upcoming Milwaukee Repertory Theater performance will be announced this month.
Finally, don't forget to register for UPAF Ride for the Arts, sponsored by Miller Lite, which is set for Sunday, June 3. If you need help gearing up for the big event, be sure to attend Wheel & Sprocket's annual Bike Expo April 5-8 at the Wisconsin Exposition Center. Take this opportunity to enjoy the nation's largest single bicycle event and register for the Ride.
Let's celebrate the beginning of spring with the arts!
Sincerely,
Deanna Tillisch
UPAF President & CEO

Culminating in one of Shakespeare's most powerfully dramatic scenes, this classic revenge tragedy comes to life in a modern and edgy adaptation set in the world of motorcycle gangs.

Sponsor Spotlight: Northwestern Mutual, Johnson Controls, Robert Baird
Employees at Northwestern Mutual - the largest corporate giver to UPAF - have already set new records for participation and funds raised for UPAF in 2012. To date, 66% of employees pledged during Northwestern Mutual's 2012 UPAF campaign, raising more than $626,000. In addition, Northwestern Mutual reached their goal of 75 Next Generation UPAF members. Over the years, Northwestern Mutual has shown extraordinary commitment in supporting the performing arts with its workplace giving campaign.
"Milwaukee's performing arts organizations distinguish Milwaukee as a dynamic cultural destination," commented Gary "Skip" Poliner, Northwestern Mutual president and UPAF Board of Directors member. "Northwestern Mutual's successful workplace giving campaign reflects our employees' belief in the transformative power and beauty of the arts, want them to be part of their lives, and are willing to support them through UPAF."
Donations made by Northwestern Mutual retirees and the Northwestern Mutual Foundation will be announced later this year. In 2011, Northwestern Mutual's combined gift to UPAF exceeded $1.2 million.
We would also like to recognize Johnson Controls and Robert Baird for their outstanding employee giving campaigns. In 2011, Johnson Controls illustrated their strong support for NextGeneration UPAF, with 98 members overall. Robert Baird has continued to benefit performing arts groups in our community with its significant employee participation in its employee giving campaigns. As two of southeastern Wisconsin's most prominent corporations, their generous support and dedication to the performing arts continues to make our community a better place.
