News this Week
Lend a Hand For the third year in a row, the state has cut its funding to CMCA. We continue to work hard to ensure that our quality programs are not affected by these cuts, but we need your help. Please donate today to help ensure that CMCA continues to provide a high quality education program for your children and for the future. Our goal is for families to donate $100 for each child attending CMCA or The Vanguard School. Donations of any amount are appreciated! Bring cash or a check to any building's front office or donate online!

Freedom's Worth Fighting For
Peak Freedom Forum, working in conjunction with Liberty on the Rocks, the Pikes Peaks Economics Club and Americans for Prosperity-Colorado, will be hosting a three-part evening lecture series in February featuring renowned historian and Constitutional scholar, Dr. Tom Krannawitter, titled "Freedoms Worth Fighting For: A short course in the founding fundamentals." Click here for more information.
Free Lacrosse Clinics
The Colorado Springs Sharpshooters Lacrosse Club will be holding a FREE lacrosse clinic for all BOYS, 5th grade thru 8th grade at The Vanguard School gym from 1:30-3:00. The Sharpshooters Club staff will provide all equipment. No registration necessary, just come to the gym on 2/24.
Carrabba's Night Again this year we will have Carrabba's cater a fantastic buffet dinner. Join us on Thursday March 1, 2012 from 6:00 pm - 8:30pm in the Vanguard Cafetorium. Pre-paid reservations can be made at any of the front offices. We must have a final count and all payments no later than Feb 28, 2012. Prices are $12.00 for the 14 and over crowd, $8.00 for 6 -13 year olds, and the little ones 5 and under are free. In addition to great food, we will have scrumptious desserts to auction off. Our 8th grade class will benefit greatly in their "moving-up" festivities by all of your support. You have to eat dinner anyway so make it a family treat, bring the grandparents too!
Buy SCRIP!
The PTO has generously agreed to put all profits earned from the Scrip Program (Gift Cards) towards staff salaries!
- Through the Scrip Program, families and staff members can purchase gift cards from hundreds of stores, and a percentage of every card goes towards these PTO profits.
- The PTO will place an order the first Friday of each month. Gift cards are available within a week of purchase.
- It's easy to purchase gift cards for your normal monthly expenditures (Wal-mart, Shell, Target, Chipotle) as part of a routine. You are encouraged to use scrip for all your everyday purchases, such as gas, food, and clothing, in addition to gift giving. Every card adds up to profit and benefits our school.
- All Gift Cards are full value, meaning $25 used to purchase a gift card is worth $25 in the store.
- For more information on the Scrip Program and details of 3 easy ways to order, please click here.

A popular summer program for our students has been the Colorado College Summer Programs for current sophomores and juniors. To date, five of our students have attended these summer programs, and each gave the experience an "incredible" rating.

Students attend on a full scholarship, which includes tuition, room and board, books and field trips. - The Southwest Scholars Program offers talented and highly motivated rising high school seniors (current juniors)an opportunity to take a for credit undergraduate course on a full scholarship for full tuition for a 4 semester hour course, room and board, and books (a $4300 value).
Students interested in attending either program can see Mrs. Custer for an application or download application materials from www.ColoradoCollege.edu/precollege. Application deadline is April 2, 2012. Early application is desirable to ensure enrollment in class of choice.
