A Dream WE BELIEVED in...and helped become REALITY!
|
A new era unfolds with renewed hope & faith Faith is defined as the assured expectation of things hoped for and realities though not beheld, believed to be true. This election demonstrated faith in action. Faith is more than a spiritual concept; it is a STRONG BELIEF in ANYTHING in the absence of proof.
In these tough economic times, it's difficult to have faith. Jobs and homes are being lost; and for a time, despite our best efforts to live cooperatively, this past election cycle brought out the worst in human nature. We were hard pressed to find SUM'THIN' to sink our teeth into that was stable, secure or uplifting.
Throughout the year, STUDIO A! intentionally covers topics that deal authentically with real life challenges & emotions offering empowering solutions. Our scheduled article was on depression being that this time of year sees large numbers of depression-related ailments. However, we felt we had MUCH to celebrate!
On Tuesday, November 4th, we saw history in the making and faith in action with the election of Barack Obama as the first African American President of the United States!
President Obama's journey to becoming the leader of the free world is a testament to a lot of the themes we've espoused: 'you can be whatever you set your mind to', have love and compassion, show gratitude, living on purpose and STAYING FOCUSED, etc. Ironically, at the turn of 2007, my letter to you was almost prophetically entitled, 'CHANGE IS GONNA COME' (read article here) Although I was speaking my goals into existence (I didn't know that much about President Obama at the time) it turns out the biggest change I could ever have imagined-a change bigger than me-did in fact, come!!!
The lesson here is if you pursue your goals with your WHOLE soul, spirit and mind-without wavering-you can achieve your goals. President Obama himself even said, there was really no reason for him to believe he could win, and yet HE DID. Here this humble, young guy with this idyllic MLK-esque aura about him-seemingly naive, completely new to the Washington establishment, etc.....'who was he to think he could come in and change the way things had been done for CENTURIES???
I have to tell you that at times, I've even doubted what I've written. Sometimes when faced with back-to-back disappointments or bad attitudes, it's hard to believe. I even had my doubts if our country was ready to evolve to the next level and demonstrate that well-touted 'liberalness'....
However, despite all odds, slander, persecution and countless other tactics, President Obama proved that if you surround yourself with strong, like-minded people, don't take anything personal, show gratitude, have faith and stay focused on your goal and above all, BE AUTHENTIC you can indeed achieve GREAT SUCCESS!
So let's get down to brass tacks here, because sometimes we have our crutches that we use to enable our self-victimization......
- President Obama was born of an African man and a White woman....in the late 50s. Need I say more?
- He was estranged from his father....with no contact with his African relatives.
- He was raised by his white grandparents.....products of their time.....
- He was raised in Hawaii...., no real urban or 'black ' culturalization
- He went to Harvard.....of course, one of a handful of Black students
- His own wife, couldn't get past his name at first!!
- Accused of not being 'black enough' (stay tuned for an article on
- that!!!); clearly not 'white enough':)
- Accused of being radical, dishonest....a socialist and likened to Fidel Castro! (this would be my personal limit!) ....all of this on the world stage for all to judge.
My friends, which of these would have made you retreat? What started as a dream with Martin Luther King has come to reality with President Obama. The Obama's have been good for our collective self-esteem. They systematically gave us a MENTAL MAKEOVER by pounding into us, even when we at first didn't know what to believe in, that if we BELIEVE and commit ourselves to a goal that speaks to the greater good and our highest potential, YES WE CAN!!! A.
"The strongest single factor in prosperity consciousness is self-esteem: believing you can do it, believing you deserve it, believing you will get it" -Jerry Gillies

believing passionately in something that still does not exist, we
create it. The nonexistent is whatever we have not sufficiently
desired."

An Apple a Day...

Benefits of Apples
It turns out there's some truth to the above saying. Aside from the high fiber, obvious anti oxidative benefits and high pectin content, apples have been shown to significantly impact colon, liver & breast cancer, diabetes, arthritis, bone density, decrease in cholesterol, asthma and Alzheimer's, to name a few.
Apple cider and Apple cider vinegar have long been recognized for their anti-fungal and antibacterial effects helping rid the body of toxins and parasites that affect hair follicles.
Take advantage of the impending fall chill and sip on 'sum hot cider for a change! An ounce of prevention costs less than a cure!
