AIC welcomes new St. Paul salon to the Family
St.Paul, MN-What happens when you quit your job, walk on faith and open the salon of your DREAMZ? Magic! That's
exactly what happened when St.Paul native, Felicia Winkler, mother of
3, decided to take a bite of the entrepreneurial pie!
"I wanted to create a place for women to relax and be pampered," says Winkler. "And besides, having 3 daughters, I thought 'why not open my own salon'!"
The
warm lavender tones create a warm, inviting environment as patrons were
treated to fabulous hair, great food, games for the kids, prizes and
more! DREAMZ offers hair styling as well as braids. They also offer nail services and of course, MAKEUP!
"I
love how easy-to-wear and blendable your products are!" said one
patron. "Your lip glosses are rich and luxurious....I love it!"

to AIC consultant Monica Price, who was all smiles-and in high-demand-at
the grand opening, "The event was 100% successful, we completely sold
out of our lip glosses and foundations!" "People love our
product! I really enjoyed spending time with the women showing them how
just applying a little gloss can instantly change your
appearance....and mood!"

What does it mean to be Empowered?
|
How to harness and unleash the power within
Every season brings its new buzz words. 'Team Spirit', 'Diversity', 'Politically-Correct'...'Change'. I remember when I first heard the word, 'empowerment'. I was at an 'empowerment' training for a major retailer when Mall of America first opened. 
When I learned that it meant I had the power-the permission-if you
will, to make decisions, to trust myself and my judgment to make an
executive decision, I fell in love!
Of course, my employer only meant for us to be 'empowered' enough to offer the best customer service, nothing more!
Since then I've been on a mission to 'empower' the world. I finally had a word to describe what I experienced growing up in Africa; confidence, determination, will-power.
Despite adversity, I had the power to make a change and create the life of my dreams.
In my journey, I've learned that we all have power, but often we choose
not to tap into it; or if we see it in others, we try to stamp it out.
I've learned the difference between POWER versus FORCE. Force dictates, POWER inspires, it creates.
This is what I'm building my business on; that women have power. Power
that we should harness, respect and aspire to navigate lovingly. What I
mean is, we often allow men, leaders, people, governments to treat us,
the environment or others, less than we all deserve. Instead many women
don a passive-aggressive role straddling force & fear as opposed to
expressly representing the ideals and feelings you hold true.
True, it is scary because, history has shown us that outspoken women are often labeled, 'heretics' 'witches', 'rebellious', 'bitter' or my fave...feminist'.
Fortunately, history has also documented some of my heroes: Queen
Elizabeth, Queen Amina, Josephine Baker, Princess Diana, Frida Kahlo,
Sojourner Truth, Tina Turner, Angela Davis, Justice Sandra Day
O'connor, Mary Merrill Anderson, Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton, my
Nigerian grandmother, Alhaja Ajoke Balogun, Hilary Clinton and Michelle
Obama.
All of these women have exuded an amazing grace in the line of fire. They all SEIZED the right to EXIST without permission, without remorse, without cowardice or shame.
I leave you with our company motto or 'slogan' if you will: GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO FEEL BEAUTIFUL. OWN your beauty, OWN your power.
Go boldly into the world and do not fear to strike out at injustice,
speak in support of peace and in your most dire moment use your power
to DECIDE TO BE GOOD. DECIDE TO BE GREAT!
