THREE OF THE BEST
This month Paul Millan, Corporate Account Manager at our Crows Nest office presents his three of the best.
AIRLINE PRODUCT
Etihad:
I was very lucky to experience Etihad Airways Pearl Business Class between Sydney and London.
Stepping into the business class cabin it has a spacious and comfortable feel with a seating layout of 1-2-1 which means all passengers have aisle access. Seats are very comfortable and convert into a 6ft 1 inch fully flat bed with mood lighting, a big pillow and comfy blanket. On-board dining is definitely a highlight of the journey with an on-board Food & Beverage manager taking care of your needs. The dine when you like 'Anytime Kitchen' is a great concept that allows you to choose any meal from the extensive menu and eat whenever you want. Meals are prepared on-board and can be paired with matching wines. Abu Dhabi is the home airport of Etihad Airways and has an excellent business class lounge to enjoy while waiting for your onward flight. Relax with a complimentary spa treatment by Six Senses, freshen up with a shower as your clothes are ironed and shoes polished or you may want to continue eating at the international buffet selection. Etihad Airways fly to Abu Dhabi and beyond from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane daily and offer business class travellers a truly five star on-board experience.
DESTINATION
Hong Kong
I've will never grow tired of Hong Kong. Despite the growth in popularity of cities in mainland China, Hong Kong still comes out on top for me. Whether it's the hustle and bustle of Kowloon, the nightlife in Lang Kwai Fong or the relaxed atmosphere in Stanley, Hong Kong has something to suit all tastes. Hong Kong is often described as the place where East meets West, reflecting the mix of Chinese roots and British colonial influences. Getting around is so cheap and easy by public transport whether it's by Mass Transit Railway (MTR), double decker bus, tram or taxi. My favourite way to commute between Kowloon and Hong Kong island is by the iconic Star Ferry. Fares cost less than 50 cents (Australian) and the journey takes less than 10 minutes. It's a great way to photograph the skyline of Hong Kong Island. Each year Hong Kong hosts many major events including Chinese New Year celebrations, The Rugby Sevens, Wine and Dine festival, Halloween and much more. Hong Kong is a food lovers paradise, everything is here in abundance. Here you will find traditional street food through to some of the world's finest restaurants and everything in between. It's easy to find somewhere to stay in Hong Kong with accommodation catering for every budget from the very popular YMCA up to the world famous Peninsula where they have a fleet of Bentleys at your disposal. There is no shortage of options for shopping especially in Kowloon which caterers to all tastes with bargains at the street markets to high end luxury brands. There are lots of options to get to Hong Kong with Qantas, Cathay Pacific and Virgin Atlantic flying direct from Sydney.
HOTEL/RESORT
Le Meurice, Paris
Last year I spent a few days in Paris and stayed at Le Meurice. If you are looking for luxury, style, outstanding service and fine dining then Le Maurice should be on your list. The hotel boasts a perfect location in the heart of the city and is just a short stroll to many famous landmarks including The Louvre and Place de la Concorde. Since 1835 Le Meurice has long been considered one of Frances finest hotels and has played host to many famous guests and has been the setting for several films over the years. The public rooms in the hotel are reminiscent of the Palace of Versailles with ornate fixtures, columns, mirrors and chandeliers. All guest rooms are spacious and luxurious with décor inspired by the Louis XVI period with all the mod cons including iPod dock and WiFi. The hotel is also renowned for fine dining and has one of only 10 restaurants in Paris offering a three-star Michelin experience. The hotel is owned and managed by The Dorchester Collection which includes The Beverly Hills Hotel, The Dorchester in London and Principe di Savoia in Milan. |
SELECT YOUR MEAL WITH QANTAS ON Q-EAT
Qantas has announced the launch of 'Select on Q-Eat', a new online meal selection service for International Business customers. Customers in International Business Class will be able to pre-select their meals from the current inflight menu, along with additional dishes exclusively available online.
Customers travelling in Business Class will be invited via email to make their supper selection through the 'Select on Q-Eat' website up to 24 hours before departure. The email invitation will be sent to all Business Class customers three days prior to travel. The service will be piloted on flights from Los Angeles to Australia on QF12, QF16, QF94 and QF108 and Qantas will look to extend its application across a wider range of their services. |
QATAR AIRWAYS TO JOIN ONEWORLD
Rumours of Qatar Airways joining the oneworld airline alliance have been confirmed, with British Airways set to sponsor Qatar into the group.
The implementation of systems to integrate Qatar Airways into oneworld is expected to take between 12 and 18 months. Qatar's accession into oneworld will add 15 new destinations and three countries - Iran, Rwanda and the Seychelles - to the alliance's map. "More significantly, Qatar Airways will substantially strengthen oneworld's customer offering by providing superior routing alternatives across many hundreds of city pairs," an official statement said - such as one-stop connections between Asia and Southern Europe or between Asia and Africa.
Once Qatar Airways is a member the 125 million frequent flyer members of oneworld carrier loyalty programs will be able to earn and redeem awards on QR flights and access Qatar. |
VIRGIN AUSTRALIA VELOCITY SILVER MEMBER LOSE PRIORITY CHECK-IN
Virgin Australia frequent flyers holding Silver status in the airline's Velocity programme will lose their access to the priority check-in lane from mid-November.
According to an email advisory sent by the airline to Velocity members. "Changes to Silver member benefits from 12 November 2012 mean that Silver members will no longer be able to access Priority Check-in when flying domestically with Virgin Australia."
Only Gold, Platinum and Business Class guests can use our Priority Checkin/Boarding queues. And Premium Economy guests where there is a premium economy product. Silvers will retain priority check-in for international flights, however, along with priority check-in and boarding on flights with Virgin Australia partners Delta and Virgin America. |
QANTAS ADDS NEW FLIGHTS TO SINGAPORE
Qantas will add new flights from Sydney and Melbourne to Singapore from March 31 next year when the airline shifts its European hub to Dubai under the Qantas-Emirates alliance.
In further Singapore news, Qantas will close its first class lounge at Singapore Changi Airport, leaving only a business lounge for Qantas business class travellers as well as Platinum and Gold frequent flyers. |
AIR FRANCE & KLM CODESHARING WITH ETIHAD
Air France-KLM and Etihad Airways announced a codesharing agreement in the first phase of what could become a broader strategic partnership. Air France, which has hit financial headwinds, also unveiled a similar deal with Air Berlin, the sixth biggest European carrier.
The agreements, which allow each airline to offer service provided by its partners, will cover destinations in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia.
The deal 'reflects the core elements of Etihad Airways' 10-year master plan, driven by organic network growth, combined with the forging of strategic codeshare partnerships and minority equity investments in other airlines," Etihad chief executive James Hogan was quoted as saying. |
