TUTORING AVAILABLE: HPL Youth Services is pleased to announce Homework Help in READING AND MATH for grades K-12. There will be three tutors at each location at the following times/days.
Mondays: 4 to 8 p.m. at the Howard Branch Tuesdays: 4 to 8 p.m. at the E. B. Hayward Branch Thursdays: 4 to 9 p.m. at Main Library- Youth Services Saturdays: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Main Library- Youth Services
Students do not need to make an appointment; just arrive with your homework. CIVIL WAR PROGRAM:
This year, the nation commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Join us at the E. B. Hayward Branch on Thursday, March 31 at 2 p.m., as Wendy St. Jean, Ph.D., assistant professor of history at Purdue University Calumet, presents "Black Soldiers in Indiana: A Civil War Experience." This program is geared for teens and adults as part of the initiative, "We the People: A More Perfect Union." PROM DRESS COLLECTION: Do you have special occasion dresses sitting in your closet? Tri Kappa's Prom Dress Resale is looking for formal wear to help make prom more affordable. Dresses may be dropped off at Main Library from Feb. 18 through March 6. You may receive a tax deduction! (Donation slips are available at Main Library.) HPL CLOSED FOR INSERVICE: All HPL locations are closed on Tuesday, March 8 for staff training. You may return items in the drop box outside each location. TAX FORMS: Tax forms are available at Main Library, west of the staircase on the first floor. Tax preparation volunteers are NOT available this year. |

Black Soldiers in Indiana: A Civil War Experience
Thurs., March 31 at 2 p.m., E. B. Hayward Branch Wendy St. Jean, Ph.D., assistant professor of history at Purdue University Calumet, presents this program for teens and adults. Nearly 1,500 African Americans from Indiana served in the Civil War. Come hear their story.

Announcing the Hammond Public Library's We the People Essay Contest, from March 1 through April 30. All you have to do is read one of the We the People books and write a one-page essay on the theme of "A More Perfect Union." All teens are invited to enter and participants will be invited to a pizza party in May. And don't forget about the Library's blog!
