Issue: # 25January/2011
Dear  ,

The New Year already seems to be flying by, and we are eager to discover what opportunities will soon unfold. This month we have been mapping out our 2011 work, and with the busyness of January as an indicator we have great expectations for what lies ahead. We look forward to developing new ideas, find new ways to collaborate, and continuing to support the clean tech sector throughout the year.

One way 2011 has started off well is with the promotion of our former intern and Valley Vision Fellow, Emily Dransfield, to Project Associate. She has been a great asset to the GCA team and will continue to infuse our work with fresh talent and next generation thinking. Congratulations to Emily!

Kind Regards,
Kristine

New at SMUD

Curious as to when you will be receiving a smart meter?  Recently, SMUD launched an interactive map onSMUD SmartMeter mapline which charts the installment schedule for smart meters within the utility's service area. Over the past year, smart meters have been penetrating homes and businesses across the state, providing real-time energy-use data to customers and thus creating more information and options for energy savings.

SMUD also made headlines recently, announcing the details of its East Campus Operation Center which will eventually house one third of SMUD's workforce. Upon completion in 2013, the LEED-platinum center will be one of the largest commercial complexes in North America that produces SMUD East Campusmore energy than it uses. The project is expected to create 300 local construction jobs. Read more in the Sacramento Bee.

GreenWise Action Plan Unveils 21 Goals

Last Thursday in front of 950 business, government, and community leaders from all across the Sacramento area - including many of you - Mayor Johnson announced the GreenWise Action Plan.  After 8 months, innumerable meetings across the region, the input from hundreds of experts and interested citizens, a 110-page action plan has been crafted with 21 very concrete, measurable goals and objectives. The plan, which is available for download online, either meets or exceeds any comparable action plan by any city or region in the United States. Many of the Valley Vision staff, especially Julia Burrows, worked many hours to assure the highest quality result. And many of you or your staff attended the monthly forums and contributed to the action team planning meetings. Thank you!!
