Honoring The Man Whom The Tournament is Named After
After his 16th season, the only coach the Bowling program has ever known decided to call it quits. Coach James Brown has been loyal and dedicated alum for the University.
Since MSU added bowling to the department in 1996, Coach Brown has done a magnificent job in elevating Morgan State bowling to not only a power in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, but also a force nationally.
The Lady Bears have been ranked as high as 11th in the nation, and have been the home of honorable mention All-American Lee-Ann Lewis. In 2001, Ms. Lewis became the first MEAC bowler to record a perfect 300 game.
Coach Brown is the proud owner of six 300 games and two 800 series.
Coach Brown says he took the position at Morgan because of his strong love for bowling, and his love of coaching young people. Brown says, "when I was asked by former Director of Athletics Garnett Purnell to take the job, I was honored to say yes."
Brown adds, "I'm proud of the progress of the program over the years. There have been some challenges, but I believe we've done a good job of elevating the program to a national level."
