Greetings! |
Welcome to the "Founders Day" edition of the "ICA In Action" newsletter. As the ICA continues to increase involvement in state, national and international events I hope to keep you informed as to the "what, where and whys" behind the ICA actions. I look forward to your feedback. The chiropractic profession will take center stage on September 21st as the highly anticipated documentary "Doctored" premieres in New York City. The documentary will then premiere in Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas and Atlanta on the 28th. Check out the official trailer and "spread the word". The Chiropractic "Drug Debate" takes an interesting turn as the other national chiropractic association files an Amicus Brief in support of the alleged illegal actions of the "pro drug" New Mexico Board of Chiropractic Examiners. The brief offers no legal defense of the NMBCE actions, but rather claims that ICA's opposition to the proposed formulary including injectables and IV therapies does not represent "mainstream chiropractic". I will report on the facts related to the New Mexico situation in the next edition of ICA In Action newsletter. Please take some time today, the 117th birthday of chiropractic, and ponder the greatness of the fellow within and the value of the alternative health care our profession offers humanity. Next, consider the goals of the West Hartford Group. This group, with fewer than 100 "by invitation only" members, is focused on transforming our profession into an allopathic physical medicine discipline with prescription drug rights. Since 2006 they have worked to attain positions of leadership in many national chiropractic organizations and are now acting to eliminate the core of what we do, correcting the subluxation. We all have the freedom and the right to promote our own vision of a better future for our profession, and more importantly retain the ability to offer our patients an evidenced-based alternative to traditional medicine, ... without the use of drugs and surgery. That choice for our patients has been central to our identity for 117 years. Please take action now: A. Increase your support of the ICA and other conservative chiropractic organizations; B. Endorse the consensus statements of the DaVinci Group and re-commit to the Foundational Tenets of our profession; and C. Resist the efforts of the few who would sacrifice our core principles in exchange for the perceived "cultural authority" associated with the prescription of drugs.

Chiropractic Documentary Premieres September 21
|
The explosive documentary "Doctored" will premiere in New York City on September 21, 2012. "Doctored", which began under the title "Medical, Inc.", delivers an honest and hard-hitting review of the suppression of alternative health care, especially chiropractic. The documentary then details the contributions to America's health care crisis that chiropractors and other alternative health care providers make at this critical time in our history.
"Your back pain will require SURGERY" ... "Without these pills, you face life-long PAIN" ... "Your child's behavior requires MEDICATION" ... That's what the doctor tells you, but who tells the doctor what to say? A visit to the

doctor can be traumatic enough. Now we learn about the "influencers" - the people you never see, but whose job it is to turn you into a compliant, pill popping, revenue generation unit. And at all costs.
According to the synopsis, available along with other information about the film at www.medicalincmovie.com, "Doctored" reveals the unseen tactics of these 'influencers' in an investigation that leads to the highest levels of the American Medical Association (AMA) and reveals an alarming portrait of deception and criminality. Along the way we wonder:
- Is much of what we 'know' about modern medicine just slick marketing from companies that profit when we're in pain (or by putting us in pain)?
- Why aren't we being told about the successes of natural therapies?
- Why do so many people think chiropractors are 'quacks,' nutritional supplements a waste of money, and acupuncture a fringe therapy?
"Is it because the "Medical Monopoly" spends millions a year attacking, ridiculing, and trying to discredit these natural therapies? The answers are almost beyond belief, until "Doctored" takes us into the courtroom with five chiropractors who, having been labeled 'an unscientific cult,' fought back and won a landmark verdict.
"Their heroic story forms the backdrop of one of the most personally compelling documentaries ever. Because of their bravery, the medical industrial complex is no longer blocking access to safe natural alternatives, pill-popping is giving way to smarter preventative care, and purveyors of sickness are being shoved aside, resulting in a healthier life for us all."
The movie will premiere in Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Dallas on September 28, 2012.

E-mails to the Editor
"What is the truth...no spin please"
|
A concerned chiropractor wrote: "Why does the ICA and it's related/associated groups oppose the expansion of the practice rights of other chiropractors if it does not affect them?"
My belief (and that of the CPAOC) is that all DC's should be permitted to choose the type of practice they want, without restrictions. That means everything from super straight principled docs to those that wish to have prescription rights. Why is there such opposition to this?
Thanks in advance for your response."
Dr. Ken CA
Editor's Response: Dear Doctor: Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and concerns. I presume that the change in scope of practice you are seeking involves drug prescription rights for chiropractors. You assert that making such a change would not impose upon those who do not desire such authority.
It is the ICA's position that such a change would fundamentally alter the character and nature of the profession and would without question affect all chiropractors regardless of their support or opposition to this change. As such we are unalterably opposed to such a change.
