Tree Strategy
As we head into spring, attention often turns to outdoor projects. A properly placed tree offers many benefits. When strategically planted, they help shield a home from the intense summer sun, increasing comfort levels and potentially reducing utility costs. They most certainly add beauty to any landscape.
A few items to consider in a landscaping project:
· Plant away from structures, walls, cement work and underground utilities. Over time, roots can cause costly damage.
· Know the height/width of a tree at maturity. Be mindful of roof and overhead lines.
· Install sprinkler heads away from the home and stucco covered walls. Water can be extremely erosive and when repeatedly saturating a surface, may increase the potential for mold growth.
· Ensure there is proper drainage away from the home.
Many additional resources are available to assist in planning your project. The Southern Nevada Arborist Group published, "The Southern Nevada Guide - Tree Selection and Care", containing interesting information and tips. It also categorizes their recommended trees by size, water usage, litter and more. |
