Greetings!
Recognizing the importance of raising awareness about ovarian cancer, in 2009 President Obama issued a proclamation designating September National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. President Obama's mother died of ovarian cancer, and his proclamation honors her spirit and unites women and advocacy organizations nationwide in our effort to remind women that ovarian cancer remains the deadliest of gynecologic cancers and together we can improve detection and treatment. We hope you'll help spread the word by sharing this newsletter with your friends and joining us on Facebook!

One Survivor's Determination...to Help Others!

Surviving ovarian cancer isn't enough for Helen Gardner; she is also driven to help other women in their fight. At this year's San Diego America's Finest City Half Marathon and 5K race, she was the top fundraiser. She crossed the finish line with pride, not only in herself for completing the race, but with the knowledge that she had raised over $12,000 for the Clearity Foundation. But Helen isn't stopping there. Her wheels continue to spin! Helen's goal is to raise $50,000 for the Clearity Foundation in February through a cycling event she is organizing with Ovarian Cycle. Join Diane's Day Fundraisers

Following last year's charitable campaign in which DavidBartonGym raised over $115,000 for The Clearity Foundation, gym founder and owner David Barton will proclaim September 24, 2011 as "Diane's Day" in honor of his sister, Diane Barton, who lost her battle to the disease in 2005. All DavidBartonGym locations in New York, Chicago, Miami and Seattle will donate a portion of the proceeds from every personal training session on Diane's Day to The Clearity Foundation.
To raise additional awareness and funds, DavidBartonGym will host several local events, including a philanthropic luncheon at Vinter Grill and a fashion show, styled by Barton and featuring looks that are each paired with a workout tip, at Neiman Marcus in Las Vegas. In addition, GILT Group's "Gilt Gives" will sell special training packages in local markets including New York, Chicago, Miami and Seattle, with all proceeds donated to the Clearity Foundation.
Clearity's Diane Barton Database was named in memory of Dr. Diane Barton, who died of ovarian cancer in 2005. Her brother, David Barton, with support from his trainers, employees and clientele at DavidBartonGym, has provided funding to The Clearity Foundation to honor her legacy as "a healer, an educator and a world class physician", as she was described by those who worked with her. Dr. Barton worked tirelessly to promote ovarian cancer awareness and continues to this day through The Diane Barton Database in her memory.

Tina and her daughter Robbie at the Relay for Life, Panama City Beach 2011
|
Tina Short's positive attitude lifts her above the cancer that tries to rob her of the activities she loves to do. She shares her personal story about persevering despite ovarian cancer, "making scraps into quilts" and arming herself with critical information should she need it in future. Tina writes, "I have comfort in knowing that I have my blueprint from the Clearity Foundation. If the cancer returns, my doctor will have a medical arsenal designed just for me and my type of cancer. I want to fight this cancer with all of my might! I want to share my story, even if it can help just one woman."

Turning Pancake Batter into Dough: My Family Fundraiser for Clearity
By Clearity Volunteer Judy
 | | Tess and Maggie celebrate July 4th by helping women with ovarian cancer. |
It started as Camp Judy. It is an annual tradition that I started in 2007 to spend some special time with my two nieces over for the 4th of July. Tess, Maggie and I treasure Camp Judy and look forward to it every year. A few years ago, appreciative of our good fortune, we decided to use the occasion to help others.
