Today, too many women are told that recurrent ovarian cancer is a death sentence. We are fighting to change that every day. The Clearity Foundation is dedicated to improving the odds for women with ovarian cancer and we need your help. Ovarian cancer is the most lethal gynecologic cancer, affecting one in 55 women in her lifetime. Today more than 70% of ovarian cancer patients will die of their disease, compared to less than 20% of breast cancer patients. Unfortunately treatment options and survival have not improved greatly in over 40 years, in contrast to the impressive strides that have been made in raising awareness and improving treatment of other cancers. Most patients with ovarian cancer are treated with a one-size-fits all approach, and over 75% of the time the cancer recurs. Often, physicians will give the same treatment that failed the first time or choose another treatment at random.
In spite of these grim odds, we believe there is a strong reason for hope. Clearity's mission is to help women make more informed treatment decisions with the goal of improving their quality of their life and survival. Not every tumor is the same, so understanding the unique genetic blueprint of each tumor is critical in determining which treatments are more likely to be effective. Clearity has made a positive difference in many patients' lives and has improved their treatment compared to the one-size-fits-all approach that is most often used today.
