| STAR/CST Testing, Apr. 25-May 6 | | |
Holmes' 2nd-6th graders will take the STAR/CST tests from Monday, April 25th through May 6th. Holmes' make-up tests will be given May 9-12th for absent students. Testing times will be from 9:05 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. daily, with recess and additional breaks taken as needed. To minimize interruptions during testing parents, volunteers and visitors will not have access to classrooms from 9:05-12:30 from April 25th - May 6th; however you will still have access to the office.
You can help prepare your children for these tests by:
- Making sure they get a good night's sleep before their tests.
- Encouraging them to have confidence and to approach this experience with a positive attitude.
- Ensuring that they eat a light, health breakfast.
- Making sure they arrive at school on time.
- Reminding them to read test directions and questions carefully.
- Encouraging them to check their answers if there is time.
Our teachers have been working hard not only to prepare students for the state tests, but also to make sure our children receive a well-rounded education.
Our students can succeed! Your support is appreciated in working together with us to make sure that our children are confident and ready to "show what they know" on our state CST Tests.
The California Department of Education (CDE) has created a website to help parents gain a clearer understanding of the STAR Program. CLICK HERE to learn more about the California Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) program and view real questions released from actual tests. |

| Budget Cuts | | |
Legislators in Sacramento failed to meet the deadline for a special election in June to secure additional revenues needed to protect education and other critical children's services. We must take action now to protect our children.
Unless the Legislature acts quickly, the Governor has said he will present an all-cuts budget in mid-May. This would mean an additional $4 billion to $5 billion reduction to K-12 education and even more drastic cuts. Are we willing to see our school year get even shorter? Close our school libraries? Crowd more students into each classroom? Lose our counselors, classroom aides, reading specialists and more? See the end of music, art and drama in our schools? What kind of future do we want for our children and our state? Now, more than ever, your voice is needed to speak up and let our elected officials know that CUT$ HURT KIDS! Act NOW before May 13th>> |
