Maggie Cee, founder and artistic director of The Femme Show, named the recipient of the 2011 Lavender Rhino Award
The History Project is thrilled to announce that Maggie Cee has been named the recipient of the 2011 Lavender Rhino Award, which recognizes an emerging history-maker in the local GLBT community. The award will be presented at the 2011 HistoryMaker Awards, on September 22 at the Goethe-Institut in Boston's Back Bay. Maggie Cee is founder and artistic director of The Femme Show, a ground-breaking touring variety show about queer femme identity.
Maggie's history of involvement in GLBT art and activism extends well beyond her amazing work with The Femme Show, however. She was active as a youth in organizing for safe schools for GLBT youth, and later was deeply involved in the marriage equality movement. Maggie Cee is also a writer whose work about queer politics and identity has appeared in a variety of publications.
As an activist and as an artist, Maggie has enriched our community in more ways than she might have imagined, and she deserves our recognition and support.
I hope you'll join us on Thursday, September 22 to celebrate Maggie's achievements, as well as the achievements of our 2011 HistoryMaker Award honoree Mary Bonauto.
Advance tickets can be purchased at a discounted rate of $100 through August 20.
We look forward to seeing you on September 22.
Regards,
Andrea Still Gray The History Project
