Mary L. Bonauto named 2011 recipient of HistoryMaker Award

The History Project is pleased to announce that Mary L. Mary L. BonautoBonauto, Civil Rights Project Director of Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD), has been named the third recipient of the HistoryMaker Award, which recognizes individuals who have made contributions of historic proportions to New England's GLBT community.

The struggle for marriage equality has had a major impact on New England's GLBT citizens and the nation. Mary's impassioned arguments in support of gay marriage helped to bring about a landmark decision by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court that has energized similar initiatives across the country. Her tireless advocacy around marriage equality, employment discrimination, custody, free speech, and HIV/AIDS has enabled thousands of GLBT Americans to make huge strides in their efforts to secure their civil rights.

I hope you'll join us on Thursday, September 22 to celebrate Mary's achievements and to support The History Project in its efforts to document, preserve, and share New England's GLBT history. Advance tickets can be purchased at a discounted rate of $100 through August 20.

We look forward to seeing you on September 22.

Regards,
Neal Kane
