Common Hope eNews

Greetings!

It may be the lazy, hazy days of summer in the States, but you wouldn't know it by the accomplishments of the supporters, staff, and students of Common Hope this past month. Our biggest news: a new video about our School Partner Initiative, and an incredibly successful sponsorship campaign. Read on to learn more.

News from Guatemala
Common Hope's Partner Schools Initiative

Students at our partner school in Santa Catarina, in a new film by Andy Duckworth featuring our School Partner Initiative.

School Partner Initiative featured in a new video

Common Hope has been blessed over the years with incredibly talented and ambitious volunteers. Our most recent case in point: Andy Duckworth, multimedia producer for The Guardian in London.

On a recent trip to Guatemala, Andy volunteered to film and produce a wonderful video about our School Partner Initiative. The brief (8-minute) film explores how the initiative is making a difference for the Santa Catarina school from diverse perspectives, ranging from young students to the school director.

Through the film, you can hear from assistant school director Marco Tulio Magarín, first grade teacher Aura Hernández, and two Santa Catarina students, along with Common Hope's program development director Renato Westby and education promoter Eva Alonzo.

Supporters in action
25 kids

You did it: 25 students sponsored in 25 days

On June 20, we introduced an ambitious goal: to find 25 sponsors in the next 25 days. We were a little nervous -- we thought the goal might be a little crazy, while worth a shot -- but you all rose to the challenge. In just 25 days, you helped us sponsor all 25 children, which is truly extraordinary. Thank you everyone for your enthusiasm and your generosity! We are greatly encouraged and tremendously grateful for your care. We couldn't have done it without you. A special thanks to all of the sponsors who signed up in the past month, and to all of you who spread the word to your friends and family. Muchísimas Gracias!

For more information on the campaign, click here. If you didn't have a chance to sponsor a child and would like to, please contact Jessie Szopinski via email, call (651) 917-0917, or sponsor a student online today .

Bryan

Bryan is a 9th grader in San Miguel Milpas Altas.

Bryan needs a sponsor

Bryan, age 17, studies in ninth grade with his 15-year-old brother Myckol in our newest community, San Miguel Milpas Altas. Both Bryan and his brother are participating in Common Hope's vocational workshops for ninth graders, which will help them figure out what career path they want to pursue. They will be making that decision before they enter 10th grade next year. At this point, Bryan is thinking he would like to go onto university to become a mechanic. His parents, both farmers, did not make it past the 6th grade.

If you can sponsor Bryan, please contact Jessie Szopinski via email, call (651) 917-0917, or sponsor him online today.
