PEV Logo- Small

Greetings! September was a busy month for ocean renewables, and the momentum continues in the US, Canada and Europe as we move into October.  The Energy Ocean  Pacific conference in Portland last week was a great success as Oregon continues to demonstrate their leadership in this sector.

Some of you may be wondering about the name of our newsletter...  aequoreus navitas is Latin for "marine energy", and PEV is committed to keeping you informed about developments in this exciting and rapidly emerging industry.

This issue focuses on the many National efforts that have been recently initiated.  Also, please note the Upcoming Events section, which provides information and links to the numerous conferences this fall.  Of particular note is the Ocean Renewable Energy Group's annual conference in Vancouver, British Columbia.  See you there!

Best Regards,

Lease for Offshore Wind

On October 5, 2010, the US Department of Interior issued a  lease to Cape Wind Associates to construct a 130-turbine project off the coast of Massachusetts, and to operate the facility for 25 years.  After  an eight year permitting process, the lease for Cape Wind marks a major milestone for the nation's offshore wind industry.  Just prior to signing the lease, Interior Secretary Salazar noted its significance at the American Wind Energy Association's Offshore Wind Conference, saying, "This is the beginning of a new era for our nation in offshore energy production."  Learn More
