Background:

The WCWE Framework is designed to support decision-making in the siting and permitting of wave energy projects off the West Coast of U.S. by:
 1) identifying the relevant environmental information requirements;
 2) synthesizing existing environmental information and making it readily accessible;
3) identifying key data gaps; and
4) proposing options to address the data gaps.

Public Comment: 9/14/10 - 10/7/10

WHO: Key stakeholders (e.g., local, state, federal and tribal governments, industry associations, environmental organizations, academia and research institutions, fishing industry, recreational ocean users, etc.)

WHAT: Pacific Energy Ventures (PEV), under contract with the US Department of Energy (USDOE), is collaborating with stakeholders to develop a Planning & Assessment Framework that outlines environmental information relevant to developing and permitting wave energy projects offshore California, Oregon, and Washington.  The process of synthesizing existing information for the framework has helped reveal  key data gaps, and the project is now focused on collecting stakeholder input on options to address key data gaps

WHEN: September 14th - October 7th

HOW: To provide a starting point from which stakeholders can review and refine Options to Address Key Data Gaps, we have created a survey to present the DRAFT options and collect stakeholder input. The survey should take about 20 minutes to complete.

Next Steps:  Once stakeholder input is collected, the project team will summarize the feedback in a final report to be shared with the USDOE and all interested parties.  The ultimate objective of this effort is to support stakeholders, developers, regulators, and policymakers in how to focus future research efforts in a manner that makes the most effective use of available resources.
