Good Times in Port Jeff
On a recent visit, I stopped by and found teens enjoying the library on a busy afternoon. These photos are candid shots. Teens did not pose for them. They were all busy, enjoying books, online stuff, and each other. Congratulations to Erin Schaarschmidt and her staff. They keep the Good Times coming for Port Jefferson Free Library teens. Erin shared some of her "Minute to Win It" ideas. Come and try some of them at our November 16 meeting. Good Times for us all!View additional photos from Port Jefferson. |

Great Stuff for Tween Guys
For younger tweens who are not into traditional novels, here are two great new books to suggest:
Ever wonder how James Bond got his start? Silverfin: The Graphic Novel invites readers to take a glimpse into the life of James as a young Eton student. He heads to Scotland for a vacation with his aunt and uncle only to discover a horrible secret at Hellebore Castle that involves eels, pigs, humans, and a serum injection which turns them all into monsters. Now a serum-filled syringe is aimed at James, as he lays strapped to a table. Will Hellebore succeed in his evil plan? The only thing that can stop him is a young boy named James. James Bond.
Dugald A. Steer's Alienology is a hands-on volume filled with interactive pages of flaps, gatefolds, and "touch and feel" textures, all in a scrapbook-style format. Professor Allen Gray, from SPACE: The Society for the Promotion of Alien Contact with Earth has recorded his findings for aspiring space cadets. Everything from the universal gesture for "I come in peace", to Gray's anatomy of an alien, and identifying aliens living on earth are included. An accompanying website offers a transmission from Professor Gray and an animated ringtone. How cool is this? Very cool.
