STRUCTURAL MOMENTS...

Greetings!

Structural engineering of buildings is not one of our specialties, it is what we do.

We have strictly limited our practice to the design of building structures for the past 25 years for good reasons. Remaining focused on a single specialty has given us the deep expertise that will greatly benefit clients and their projects. It enables us to design structures to have high performance under natural and occupant loads. Specialization allows us to incorporate flexibility to re-adapt the space for use by future tenants, for instance. Merely complying with minimum building codes can be insufficient and may limit future adaptations and reduce lease revenue.

The same is true for other engineering disciplines, architecture and construction. The expertise and wisdom of a specialized professional will give building owners a lifetime return for their investment. Consider the following attributes when selecting your project team:
  • Core specialty with depth and breadth
  • Boutique practice with owners who are hands on and deliver personal service
  • Team players who check out their ego at the door
  • Adequate support staff and resources
  • Locally based with deep roots in the community
Passion is a key ingredient to be successful. We love what we do and get a huge sense of pride and accomplishment when we help make projects become a reality.

Focus on: Long Span Structural Systems

Long-span structures provide unobstructed, column-free interior space for a variety of functions and activities where visibility and flexibility are essential. Examples of structures that require these special design and construction elements include: convention centers, stadiums and arenas.

Long-span structures demand close attention to unbalanced design loads such as wind pressures, snow drifts, suspended rigging loads and construction material loads. Construction becomes complex and can significantly impact the entire project cost and schedule. To select the most appropriate long-span structural system from a variety of available choices requires the collaboration of expert design and construction professionals.

Framing concepts, construction sequences, fabrication processes and erection methods are essential relationships which must be thoroughly understood to achieve economic value in any project, long-span structures in particular.

Knowledge of structural forms, fabrication, and erection methods will significantly impact construction costs and schedules. Our experience in the structural engineering of long-spans has enabled us to assist the rest of the design and construction teams to deliver successful projects such as the MGM Grand Convention Center, featured below.

Featured Project: MGM Grand Convention Center
