Jump Start Day is Friday from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm

New Strandwood Parents: Jump Start Day is where you have a chance to meet other parents, learn how you can help the PTA provide Strandwood with the outstanding programs and instructional assistants, purchase your spirit wear and get your class assignments.

If you haven't filled out your JSD paperwork please visit the school office during working hours and pick up a packet or click here for the electronic copy. Last week we listed some troubleshooting tips for the electronic packet. The most important thing to look for is the colored bar across the top of the page. To review to those tips please click here

Don't forget, to improve your JSD experience bring checks or cash for payment, fill out all your forms prior to attending and consider waiting until 4:30 or 5:00 to make your appearance.

PTA Welcome Back Coffee

Join us the first day of school, Wednesday, Aug 30th, at 8:10 a.m. in front of the multi-use room for a special Welcome Back Coffee sponsored by the Strandwood PTA. Come and catch up with friends you haven't seen all summer or maybe make new ones.

Hope to see you there!

Easing First-Day Jitters

From Teachervision.com

For many kids, school is just a continuation of daycare. Playing and sharing with other kids is nothing new. But for some preschoolers and kindergarteners, this is their first experience away from home. Prepare your child for this big adventure by trying these ten tips from school counselors and teachers. To read this article from teachervision.com please click here.

From time to time we will post a link to articles from sources such as familyeducation.com,  teachervision.com or others.

Important Volunteer Fingerprinting Information

Anyone working with students must be fingerprinted by the Mt. Diablo School District and have a negative TB test on file. How do you do that? Click here to download the Parent Volunteer Fingerprint Form. Evidence of a negative tuberculosis test done within the last 60 days must be provided to the Personnel Office at the time of your scheduled fingerprint appointment. TB clearance remains valid for 4 years and fingerprints remain valid for the duration of your volunteering within the school district. The TB test spans 2 or 3 days so don't leave it to the day before your fingerprinting date.

Your family doctor can usually administer the TB test or there are two Muir Diablo Occupational labs that can perform the tests.

Concord: 2231 Galaxy Court 685-7744

Test available everyday Mon - Fri from 7 AM-7 PM, Sat 9 AM-2 PM

No TB after 2 PM on Thursdays

Walnut Creek: 1981 N. Broadway, Suite 190 932-7715

Test available everyday Mon - Fri, from 8 AM-5PM

Volunteer Drivers: If you plan on driving students on field trips you must have a copy of your current automobile insurance coverage on file in the office. This is in addition to the fingerprinting and TB testing requirements. The proof of insurance coverage must be a copy of the policy showing how much coverage you have. A proof of insurance card that you keep in the car is not sufficient.

API Preliminary Scores

The projected 2010 Base API score for Strandwood is 923! That is up from 917 last year and 905 the year before. Congratulations to the entire Strandwood staff and the parent community for maintaining the dedication to excellence that has made Strandwood the great school it is.

Pleasant Hill Day at the A's - 50th Anniversary Celebration

Join the Pleasant Hill Community Foundation in a celebration of Pleasant Hill's 50th Anniversary with "Pleasant Hill Day at the A's" on September 18.  We will all be in lower box seats, (regularly $30 each), to cheer on the A's versus the Detroit Tigers.  Tickets are discounted to $20 for youth 14 years old and younger and $25 for others.  A portion of each ticket purchased goes back to the Pleasant Hill Community Foundation and the Pleasant Hill Recreation and Park District.

Great seats.  Great fun with your Pleasant Hill friends.  And the kids get to run the bases after the game!  Join us with your family, neighbors or co-workers.  Order your tickets before August 29 from http://www.phcommunityfoundation.org/game.html or from Betty Cantrell with the Pleasant Hill Community Foundation at info@PHCommunityFoundation.org or 925-381-3566.
