Perfect Attendance Awards
|
Last month we acknowledged students who received awards for having perfect attendance for 2008-2009. Perfect attendance means no tardies, no absences and no independent study contracts; in their seat every school day.
We inadvertently left off 5th grader Alexandra Flores.
Congratulations Alexandra. |
| Jump Start Day
August 24, 2009 |
Get the new school year off to a great start at the Strandwood Jump Start Day! Get a jump on all the beginning of the year paperwork, purchase some spirit wear and pick up your child's class assignment. When you are done catch up with friends around a pizza dinner.
Your Jump Start Day packets will be available for pick-up starting Tuesday, August 11th, at the school office. Hopefully, we will have the entire packet available on-line by then so if you can't make it to school you can still get most of the forms and flyers prior to Jump Start Day.
Attention Incoming 5th Grade Parents
The Jump Start Day Pizza Dinner is a fundraiser for the 5th grade Outdoor Ed program. This year Papa Murphy's Pizza will "cater" the event. In addition to drink sales, the Outdoor Ed Program will get a portion of every piece of pizza sold.
If you would like to help out with the 5th Grade Fundraiser or Jump Start Day please contact Jeff Eide at JEideVP@gmail.com.

California's Education System Takes Another Hit
|
From the Contra Costa Times....
"Bay Area
school districts and colleges, which have already slashed millions of
dollars from their programs this year, are bracing for more layoffs,
unpaid vacation days and a shortened academic year as a result of
California's tentative budget deal.
Crafted by top lawmakers on
Monday to close the state's $26 billion deficit, the agreement contains
the deep cuts to public education that the governor proposed in late
May. The new reductions will include an estimated $6.1 billion from
school districts and community colleges - including cuts made
retroactively for the 2008-09 academic year ..."

That's right, more budget cuts may be just around the corner. Stay informed of the situation by reading and listening. We will try and keep you up to date with all the changes and how they might affect Strandwood in the weeks to come with the summer Email Blasts. Because of the budget cuts there are a number of special fundraisers trying to make up for the loss of funding. A few are listed below. The Student Donation on Jump Start Day is the only one that directly benefits all Strandwood students.

Measure "S" Garage Sale
|
Join Strandwood families for the biggest school garage sale ever!
Each
family is asked to set up their own garage sale at their home and
donate the proceeds to Strandwood's Measure "S" campaign.
The
Measure "S" campaign has already raised more than $12,000 but we need
another $12,000 to provide instructional assistants in all first grade
classrooms and two aides for second and third grade.
If you'd
like to participate, contact Martha Alexander at Alexander9@aol.com. For those who are participating, your
address and items for sale will be published on a flyer the day of the
garage sale and other media i.e. Facebook to get the word out. For
those who cannot host a garage sale but would like to contribute
various items to sell, let us know. We'll get 'em sold.
