11th Annual Transgender Day of Rememberance
Friday November 20 The 11th annual Transgender Day
of Remembrance, themed "One Love," will be commemorated at 6 p.m. on Friday,
Nov. 20, in West Hollywood, Calif.
The event begins at Matthew Shepard Human Rights Triangle (Santa Monica
Blvd. at Crescent Heights), where the West Hollywood
City Council and honored guests - including Chaz Bono - will unveil the first Transgender Memorial Plaque,
commemorating those who have been murdered due to anti-transgender violence and
hatred. Following the dedication, a candlelight
march will proceed east on Santa Monica Blvd. to Plummer
Park for a community reception. Food and refreshments will be served.
The Transgender
Day of Remembrance began in 1999 as a candlelight
vigil in San Francisco to honor Rita
Hester, a transgender woman murdered in 1998. The memorial continues to be
staged in hundreds of cities and more than a dozen countries around the world. For the past
decade, at least one person a month has been murdered due to anti-transgender
violence, which shows no sign of abating.
To learn more, visit www.transgenderdor.org.
The Transgender Day of
Remembrance is supported by the City of West Hollywood's Transgender Task
Force.

House Committee On ENDA: Act Now!
House Committee consideration of the Employment
Non-Discrimination Act is Wednesday, Nov. 18, one of the National Call-In
Days for Equality, then a vote in the full House will happen within a few
short weeks! Call-in days are a coordinated effort by scores of
organizations to flood offices with calls as we approach the House
vote. Congressmembers tell us that what influences them most
are calls and
emails from
people back home. Make a difference, call Capitol Hill now.
Call the U.S. Capitol switchboard: (202) 224-3121.
Give your zip code and ask to be connected to your Representative.
Say: My name is _____ and a proud resident of (your city,
state). I am calling in support of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act
(H.R. 3017), to protect lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people
from job discrimination. Please pass ENDA before the end of the
year. I can be reached at _______ (give your phone number). Thank you.
Or, send an email
by clicking here: ENDA Email
Let's burn up the phone lines to Congress, telling them ENDA
is next, ENDA is NOW! Let Congress know how important ENDA is to
LGBT people and all those who care about equality. Call
today! Call now!
