The Privacy Professor Tip of the Month |
|
The countdown is on! As you ring in the New Year, resolving to protect your personal information is more important than ever.
It would be a great way to start the new year by cleaning up and deleting all those old apps you don't use any more. If you don't know where to start, click here for some guidance with your Facebook apps.
Additionally, while you're at it, why not get rid of old applications and programs on all of your devices that you no longer use to improve security, privacy and performance? Several of you have asked me how to do this, so I've posted step-by-step instructions here.

PRIVACY PROFESSOR'S TIPS OF THE MONTH
Believe it or not, New Year's Day is the worst day for auto thefts. And often, along with the car, thieves score laptop computers, smartphones, GPS systems, garage door openers (everything that can put privacy and security at risk), which is more reason to be aware of our actions, especially when out celebrating the new year! Take extra precaution to make sure your cars are locked, with no electronics inside.
Another tip: Don't take photos of people doing crazy or shocking things on New Year's and post them online without their permission. Not only could it be embarrassing, it could also get them into trouble with their friends, family, and perhaps even lead to job loss! Tick tock on the clock.... Data Privacy Day is January 28! Local, state and national governments - around the globe! - will join leading technology and privacy services companies in concentrated efforts to protect our collective privacy. It's the perfect day to do the same at your company, and kick off ongoing security measures for the safety of employees and customers.
My Security Search is a fun and easy way to celebrate Data Privacy Day, and the message will continue to be communicated long after the initial activity.
This year, I've once again been successful at getting Data Privacy Day recognized by the State of Iowa. To check out the proclamation on Facebook, click here.
To honor Data Privacy Day, I'm offering 20% off Security Search as well as 20% off my Protecting Information Quarterly Journal - now through the end of January only. To get a quote or learn more, please email me here.
